Default Dear Basenotes - Decide what I buy

I have been given a generous allowance of around $400 to spend on some new fragrances, in observance of my birthday next week.

Fall is approaching, and I would like to get at least 2.

    Top contenders:

    Ambre Narguile
    Helmut Lang EDP

Someone, tell me what to buy.

Yes, but the clickable wardrobe icon doesn't seem to show up any more for most people who are not members of BN Plus-- in which case to see a person's wardrobe, one has to go to their profile page and use the link in the left sidebar to "view wardrobe".

Rive Gauche, and you should have about £375 left to play with.

A sophisticated rose, patch and incense bomb like Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle and an overlooked spicy red pepper and sandalwood scent like Padpadscha by Satellite

Aomassai is a fantastic hazelnut/caramel with liqourice woods underneath, dark and gorgeous.

That's like $375.00 plus tax and shipping - perfect scents for going into a cooler climate, even though San Diego doesn't get very cold.

My bottles of Gucci Envy haha

I'd say Creed's Royal Oud and Chanel's Egoiste.

Cannot go wrong with those and you'll have some cash left over.

If you'd like to stick to the sweeter side, try out L'Artisans Traversee du Bosphore

    others I'd recommend

    -Mona di Orio - Vanilla
    -Dior - Ambre Nuit
-Malle - Portrait of a Lady (don't blind buy at that price...but damn it's good)
    -Amoauge - Memoir or Jubliation
    -Le Labo - Rose 31

of course Ambre Narguile is highly recommended but maybe you could spring for a 15ml of it? Or even better seek out a 4 pack of the Hermessence line, you get 4 for $175 I think. I'd recommend Ambre Narguile, Vetiver Tonka, Santal Massoia, you can look through them and see if anything interests you. Or just get 2 of AN or so if only a couple interest you.

I can tell you the stuff is strong and will last a while even in 15ml.

If you do end up getting Ambre Narguile then don't look to much into Ambre Nuit by Dior, it has a similar feeling to me, but Oud Ispahan and Leather Oud are both great from the line if they sound interesting to you.

You're going to get hundreds of different answers, but I'll put forth Tobacco Vanille and Jubilation XXV.

I agree, you'll get loads of answers. My votes however, go to Millesime Imperial, Sycomore and Rose 31. You already have some good ones in your wardrobe, but I would try these at the very least.

@kalli - loved your signature by the way!!

LOL!!...but, seriously, I can't really offer anything better than what these experienced & fine noses already have. I can say, though, that DAMN am I jealous. There are quite a few frags I REALLY want right now, but am completely cash strapped for quite a while, so I would LOVE to have $400 to play with. I can just say...good luck, have fun & enjoy & appreciate this great opportunity to add some great frags to your collection!!!!

$400 is a nice chunk of change. I recommend betting it on Ohio State +3 and doubling your money, but I'd understand if you'd rather not and just get some bottles, in which case I'll recommend.

    Nasomatto Pardon - 150
    CdG - Wonderwood - 125
    Tom Ford Extreme - 135

I noticed you don't have Dior Homme or DH Intense and I would recommend one or both but I figured there's a reason why you don't have 'em.

I noticed Spicebomb on your list, I would go for Tea for Two instead. Jubilation XXV, Ambre Nuit and Noir de Noir are fantastic and definitely worth trying out!

Personally, I'd be looking at an Amouage if I had that kind of money to spend right now. Interlude Man or the incredibly underrated (and nothing at all like Le Male) Reflection Man.
