Default NoirDrakkar's Haul #1: Fierce, Midnight in Paris, and Spicebomb (be sure to comment on this one)

Okay, I've gotten too comfortable with the colognes that I've already sampled, so I decided to expand on some new ground and try samples. Shout out to checkitoutone.com ran by the BN member Boomer. I was skeptical at first, but it's completely legit, with great low prices. Highly recommended. Now onto the reviews. I've tested these for the first time. It's been a couple hours, so I'm starting this review with a clean slate.

    Abercrombie and Fitch - Fierce
It is easy to dismiss this one because the bottle design (which is a picture of a muscular man's torso), but I'm purely judging by the juice. This one is certainly a citrus scent (with a tiny bit of woodsiness in the background). It's certainly something I think I've smelled before, at a mall where young people hang around. With the citrus notes, I think they are a little more pungent and sour than sweet and fresh. It is a bit masculine but it has a lightness about it though. In the end, I think this wouldn't be bad for a younger audience (under 25, and for those in high school), however at the priceline of $75 for a 3.4 oz, I really think it's a bit pricey for what you are getting and you can certainly do better. I don't think I'll be buying this one, but it's not bad. It's still a good scent overall. It just didn't impress me a lot.
Tentative Rating: 6 out of 10
Tentative Verdict: I'm not particularly urging you to sample this, but if you are curious about this one go for it.

    Spicebomb by Viktor and Rolf
I've heard some say this was really good, others say this was really bad. To me, the name describes the scent well. It feels like a bomb full of spices exploded. It's not a loud scent, but far from subtle. Projects well. Perhaps a good spring/fall scent. This one is different and will get you noticed. This does smell like a rack full of spices. Not the bitter or hot spices like pepper or the kind you'll see in Polo/Terre D'Hermes. These spices are more sweet like cinnamon. This fragrance overall has a sweetness about it. It is a warm scent, though it is very dry. I do give a thumbs up on this one for Viktor and Rolf's ability to innovate on this one. I'm not sure if I want to buy this one, but I'm considering it.
    Tentative Rating: 7 or 8
Verdict: If you want something unique, definitely give this one a try.

Midnight In Paris - Van Cleef and Arples
Of all three, this one caught my attention the most. This one was the most sophisticated and the one that I will have to test the most. This one is very unique and I'm really thinking about buying this one. It is sweet and powerdy, a little feminine, but definitely something I have smelled before. The title Midnight In Paris is perfect. This is definitely something I imagine for a prom or romantic evening. It feels very magical and surreal. It's really hard to describe this one with words. Just go out and get this one.
    Tentative Rating: 8 or 9
Verdict: I beg you to try it.

Some questions to get the conversations going.

    1. Do you think I accurately describe these?
    2. What is your opinion on these?
    3. Most favorite of the 3?
    4. Least favorite of the 3?

    My opinions are the same.

Fierce isn't bad, but it's just not for me. Something I would have worn in high school, but now that I'm aware of all of these great smelling colognes out there, Fierce is far from the top of my priority list.

As for Spicebomb and Midnight In Paris, these will probably be the next ones I buy. I really liked them.

MiP is great for the price, it replaced Armani Code when I first got it, and I feel it hits similar notes with Dior Homme/Intense. It has a nice leather to it too.

Fierce and Spicebomb were definitely not my style.

No comment on AF Fierce as I've never knowingly smelled it. I own, but don't particularly care for MiP. What I'm finding out is that I don't like tea in my frags. Also, I can't pinpoint why or how, but MiP smells kinda feminine to me. I don't really see the Dior Homme connection either (aside from Polge), but it seems plenty do and plenty enjoy it so, yeah, if it works for you, keep at it. I'll test my bottle a few more times but likely part with it before too long as it seems I never reach for it. On the flip side, I dig the Spicebomb. I don't get good longevity with it, but I do get good projection while it lasts. It's probably just a matter of time until an Intense or Extreme version of Spicebomb comes out, which I'd conceivably be interested in.

Spicebomb would be a 10 out of 10, if it weren't for two major flaws

#1 - It is priced at $100 for 3 oz. It's a bit pricey, so I would only recommend this one if you really love it.

#2 - Projection is the problem. For the first hour it's monstrously loud but from hour 2 to 8, it is very close to the skin.
Apply 1-2 sprays and people won't smell it after an hour. Apply more than that and it will overpower people during the first hour.

So that's why I think I'll end up giving it an 8.

I almost entirely agree, I get a little more projection, but yeah, pretty much agree.
