Default Muscs Koublai Khan - Safe for Work?

    Hi,

Would you consider Muscs Koublai Khan to be a safe fragrance to wear to work? The reviews I've read suggest that it has animalic/fecal notes so this makes me think that it would be somewhat controversial to say the least. I've only tested it from a wax sample, it smelt nice and there were no dirty notes in the wax sample. Just ordered a full bottle which will hopefully be with me in the next few days/weeks. I am interested in knowing that is there anyone here who actually wears it to work?

    Thanks.

If you work as a construction worker or as prime minister of the league of manly men, sure.

Wait until colder weather comes, then wear a small dose of it under a couple of layers of clothing. Like this: sparingly apply to bare chest/neck/wrist, then don your singlet then shirt then a sweater. You thus contain your sillage the first few times you trot this scent out in public rather than come on like a crop duster.

I wear it all the time to work, but I have zero respect for my co-workers, so I couldn't tell you if it is safe or not!

It would certainly be safe if you work in a wastewater-treatment center.
Other work venues would be questionable.

On skin, it does mellow out quite a bit, but it remains resolutely animalic. You might be one of the people who is slightly anosmic to certain musks, but other people will pick them up.

I love it, but it might be hard to pull it off at work, and I never wear it there. As Jardanel was saying, a small amount could work in the winter if you wear suits - the impression will be just body warmth. But definitely not in the summer, when the civet can scream out. In general, I would reserve MKK for leisurely endeavors and nights out. And encounters of various degrees of intimacy, should your partner enjoy it.

I would say that MKK is not safe for ANY occasions.. It`s more a work of art than a fragrance to wear.

I have never smelled MKK but am about to slather it on from a sample. Wish me luck!

Update: the kick in the teeth must come later because thus far the opening is quite nice.

I think so if worn lightly. 1, 2 sprays at most.

I think the name of this one is much much more hardcore than the scent.

I'm one of those people that don't smell the 'fecal' note in MKK, and I love the stuff.

However I've had three different women smell it, and two said it was vile. Hence, I wouldn't be wearing it to the office.
I'm sure there will be at least one person who will dislike the odour.

    GOOD GOD NO!

A few years ago, I read about a website devoted to the SNES game Shaq Fu. The website said it was the worst video game of all time and was so bad it was unworthy to exist, and offered to buy any and all copies of the game from anyone for the sole purpose of destroying them and eradicating the world of Shaq Fu once and for all.

The point being, that's how I feel about MKK. The rankest of the rank.

So let me get this straight. Because you can name a frag that is even more offensive than MKK, that means it *is* OK to wear MKK to the office? Seriously, dude?
As far as using a lavatory (public or otherwise), we have no choice in doing that. But we *do* have a choice not to wear a frag that has fecal notes and could offend many people...

I've held my tongue on this issue for several years but I'm pretty much getting sick and tired of it. MKK is a soft floral musk with a slight animalic nuance that's not particularly overwhelming. Yes, body chemistry may be crucial but there are tons of skankier oils and fragrances out there.

The main point I'm trying to make is that there is too much misinformation about what MKK smells like. As for offending people, there'll always be someone who isn't 'contented' (especially in the US it seems).

This more or less captures how I feel about what I read too often about MKK. Its skanky/fecal/whatever reputation is wildly, wildly exaggerated, especially after 20-30 minutes of drydown. I've worn it on a number of dates and, fearful of the hyperbole such as found here, have been self conscious and asked my dates. Not one of them understood the "controversy" (yes, in quotes) surrounding it, even if they didn't love it. And the reason being: as was said, it's a soft, musky floral. I find it to be an exceptionally beautiful one. If you like it, wear it. If you love it, wear it to work and feel good about it. Don't let the played-out MKK-bashing put you off from your passion for a fragrance.

So much hyperbole here, i agree. MKK is not as beastly as it is popularly described here. I wear it well even in my tropical environment and what is really perceived is the floral and musky aspects. "Butt-crack" and all that remain exclusively on these boards.

Wear what you want etc., but it's not a discreet fragrance if that's what you want. Personally i love it and i found that 1-2 sprays are not enough for me. Usually wear it only at nights out.

What this man says. I wear it for office, and I'm one of those "safe" fragrances guy. Just one spray under the shirt and I usually layer it with a sweet fragrance -try layering this with one spray Back to Black for instance- The animalic skin-scentlike musk of MKK captures and embraces the sweetness, you'll get whiffs under your neck while you move, really good effect.

I don't even slightly get the "butthole" or "men's crotch" references

Yes. It projects clean and smells nice.
Even if you get dirty notes from it, others in your vicinity will have a totally different experience. That is if they even smell it, as it sits relatively close to the skin.

Yes. It dries down to a very clean musk.

I guess I just don't understand why, with the thousands of other safer frags out there, someone would want to gamble going to work with a scent that so many describe as dirty, fecal, etc. In the right environment (like with a bunch of guy friends), it is one thing to experiment with a controversial scent. But in an office, with men and women, why risk it?

I would say that it depends on your workplace. I do get the men's crotch vibe from it, combined with some powdery rose, although I don't get anything particularly fecal. My partner thinks it smells like a homeless person. YMMV. If you're inclined to be worried about it, I'd say wear it elsewhere. The one time I wore it to work, I got a compliment on it from a female co-worker. I think a lot of people - male and female - would find the smell of a clean man's crotch with a dusting of rose powder a sexy smell.
