Default Does anything remind you of Egoiste?

I own and love Egoiste - but I'm looking for something more "cost effective" for every day use. Is there any other fragrance that reminded you of the wonderful Egoiste? I love the burst of cinnamon in the opening and the rich drydown.

Could be completely off since I've only sampled both of them once, but bond no9 I love new York marriage equality reminded me of egoiste.

Yup, this is what I was going to say as well. It's kind of like "Egoiste Lite"- you get the nice warm wood, but it just seems too airy and lacks the complexity of Egoiste. That said, I'll wear the Trumper to work, but not the Egoiste- the Chanel offering is far too dense and potent for the cramped office I work in. At home or going out, Egoiste handily wins this battle. The Trumper Sandalwood "skin food" is slightly more dense in fragrance, and is pretty nice, too. There's also a citrus aspect not present in Egoiste. Sadly, the Trumper goes from "nice" to "barely detectable" in a couple of hours. And it's not that much less expensive than the Egoiste. If it's the money, save up for another week or two or whatever- Egoiste is worth it, imho.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Trumper is very generous with samples, and if you email them, they're very likely to send you samples free of charge. Great way to try before you buy, and for me, build brand loyalty. I just wish the Sandalwood lasted longer.

    Trumper's Sandelwood is somewhat similar.
I also find it to be more potent than the latest bottle of Egoiste that I purchased.
Egoiste seems to be getting weaker and weaker and that's a real shame.
It used to be a very rich fragrance but sadly it has been watered down.
At the moment Trumper's Sandalwood had better longevity and sillage.

This. I´m not sure how much the 200 ml bottles cost nowadays, but it COULD be an option, especially if you want it for evereday use.

    Bois des Iles.

Tiffany for Men might also be worth a shot (we all grow up at some point). It's not another Egoiste BUT it is the 'lost Chanel masculine' a grown up classic "chypre - oriental" that Polge composed for Tiffany which is still quite reasonably priced considering the quality.

Another vote for Trumper's Sandalwood. I find it a bit too sweet for my taste but it does resemble Egoiste. I thought longevity was good when I last tried it.

This may be stretching it, but, perhaps, Five O'Clock Au Gingembre by Serge Lutens, a festive composition, or Burberry London for Men by Burberry.

If you can find some Python (women's version) see what you think of the drydown relative to Egoiste's. I liked Python's better and so never tried to obtain an Egoiste bottle (I'm not suggesting they are very similar but that it's worth sampling to see if you share my preference). More available is Avon's Starring for Men,but again I'm not suggesting it's a "clone."

As mentioned above - Trumper's Sandalwood, which I actually find longer lasting than Egoiste. Price is reasonable - around £35 for 50ml, I think.

Creed Vanisia is another option, but certainly not a cost-effective one.

Gucci Envy for Men immediately reminded me of Egoïste when I tried it. A more modern and sparkly Egoïste. It's discontinued now, so not cheap, though.

As for Eau des Baux, it is my current favorite, but it doesn't remind me of Egoiste.

The only fragrance that can remind of of Egoiste, is the vintage Egoiste which was far more dense and complex. Today's version of Egoiste is an offense to its original formula. It has gotten quite ridiculous.

own the current. smelled some old & cologne concentree Egoiste and find this statement untrue. i think the current is just fine.

The cologne concentree is a masterpiece but harder to wear; I'd only wear it in the cold seasons and formal occasions. On the other hand, the latest EDT is still great, smells more modern, more versatile, and lighter but still lasts 8+ hours on my skin in the cold weather.

Yes, they're very good. I emailed them a while ago to ask if I could buy a sample of Limes, and they replied asking for my address so they could send me a complementary sample. When the package arrived it contained two samples of the Limes and a few other assorted ones included too - one of which was the wonderful Eucris, and you can guess what I'll be popping in to buy when I'm in London next month!

Very much agree! I also thought Egoiste was pretty weak last time I sample it on skin, so I'm no longer 'prepared' to buy it for a 2-3 hrs. enjoyment...not to mention that, since I own & love Antidote, this is way redundant...

Carven Homme, with its rosewood and spices, is very similar to Egoiste to my nose. However it is quite a bit "rougher" in texture, not as smooth as the Chanel.

Okay, another thought but very much from left field.

I haven't worn it but was given a blast on a card at the counter just a couple of days ago: Bang Bang (Marc Jacobs).

My first thought was 'woody oriental, warm sandalwood vibe, Egoiste-ish'. I don't know if it's any cheaper, it's certainly not better, but if you can put the silly name aside and forget the first peppery mess that was Bang then from one initial impression I would say this may be worth at least trying. I will try to give it another shot next time I'm in the place that sells all the new commercial releases.

When I'm looking for alternatives for anything it isn't a matter of looking for the thing that smells most like it. That can be futile and not necessarily satisfying in the end anyway. I don't know about the current Egoiste (I have the older stuff), but the current Bois des Iles is like a much smaller, attenuated Egoiste, the only things left being some of the balsams, obscure woods, and a fraction of Egoiste's spices. It feels nothing like the paragon of herbal-spicy-woody (orientals): Egoiste I know (original formulation). I never liked it as much as Egoiste, but after smelling the latest formulation Bois des Iles is dead as far as I'm concerned. So is the new Cuir de Russie for that matter.

When I'm in the mood for Egoiste I can usually wear all kinds of things, but these things often feel (not necessarily smell) the closest, whether it's because of herbs, spices, balsams, fruits, woods, musks, whatever, doesn't matter. I'm sure I left a few off:

    Jubilation XXV

    Yohji Homme
    Patou
    pour Homme
    Theorema (women’s)
    Zino Davidoff
    Tiffany for Men

Even something unexpected like Givenchy Gentleman (vintage)
