It's pretty unique IMO.
I own and love Egoiste - but I'm looking for something more "cost effective" for every day use. Is there any other fragrance that reminded you of the wonderful Egoiste? I love the burst of cinnamon in the opening and the rich drydown.

It's pretty unique IMO.
Bois des Îles, but it's not more 'cost effective'. Sorry.
Sandalwood by Geo F. Trumper
Could be completely off since I've only sampled both of them once, but bond no9 I love new York marriage equality reminded me of egoiste.
Marginally: Van Cleef&Arpels pur Homme.
Yup, this is what I was going to say as well. It's kind of like "Egoiste Lite"- you get the nice warm wood, but it just seems too airy and lacks the complexity of Egoiste. That said, I'll wear the Trumper to work, but not the Egoiste- the Chanel offering is far too dense and potent for the cramped office I work in. At home or going out, Egoiste handily wins this battle. The Trumper Sandalwood "skin food" is slightly more dense in fragrance, and is pretty nice, too. There's also a citrus aspect not present in Egoiste. Sadly, the Trumper goes from "nice" to "barely detectable" in a couple of hours. And it's not that much less expensive than the Egoiste. If it's the money, save up for another week or two or whatever- Egoiste is worth it, imho.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that Trumper is very generous with samples, and if you email them, they're very likely to send you samples free of charge. Great way to try before you buy, and for me, build brand loyalty. I just wish the Sandalwood lasted longer.
Trumper's Sandelwood is somewhat similar.
I also find it to be more potent than the latest bottle of Egoiste that I purchased.
Egoiste seems to be getting weaker and weaker and that's a real shame.
It used to be a very rich fragrance but sadly it has been watered down.
At the moment Trumper's Sandalwood had better longevity and sillage.
Bois des Iles.
Tiffany for Men might also be worth a shot (we all grow up at some point). It's not another Egoiste BUT it is the 'lost Chanel masculine' a grown up classic "chypre - oriental" that Polge composed for Tiffany which is still quite reasonably priced considering the quality.
Another vote for Trumper's Sandalwood. I find it a bit too sweet for my taste but it does resemble Egoiste. I thought longevity was good when I last tried it.
This may be stretching it, but, perhaps, Five O'Clock Au Gingembre by Serge Lutens, a festive composition, or Burberry London for Men by Burberry.
Bois des Îles by Chanel. It's a more refined version of Egoiste. I have even heard bdi referred to as the father of Egoiste.
Opium PH is closest
If you can find some Python (women's version) see what you think of the drydown relative to Egoiste's. I liked Python's better and so never tried to obtain an Egoiste bottle (I'm not suggesting they are very similar but that it's worth sampling to see if you share my preference). More available is Avon's Starring for Men,but again I'm not suggesting it's a "clone."

black suede by avon
(but no sane person would want to wear or own black suede by avon)
Not really similar but Kenzo Power EDT reminds me of Egoiste EDT with its sparkling citrus + florals and vanilla drydown.
Histoires de Parfums 1969 Parfum de Revolte...somewhat. Also not more cost effective.
Banana republic republic for men. May not share many/ any notes but to my nose they smell similar.
Trumpers Sandalwood Cologne is indeed very similar to Egoiste in side by side comparison.

Renato
Antidote reminds me of what Egoiste would smell like if you took out the rosewood and replaced it incense and sweetened it up a bit.
Some day's you're the statue and some days you're the pigeon.
Costume National Homme is somewhat like Égoïste in smell!
As mentioned above - Trumper's Sandalwood, which I actually find longer lasting than Egoiste. Price is reasonable - around £35 for 50ml, I think.
Creed Vanisia is another option, but certainly not a cost-effective one.
Gucci Envy for Men immediately reminded me of Egoïste when I tried it. A more modern and sparkly Egoïste. It's discontinued now, so not cheap, though.

The only fragrance that can remind of of Egoiste, is the vintage Egoiste which was far more dense and complex. Today's version of Egoiste is an offense to its original formula. It has gotten quite ridiculous.
