Noble Cedar by Chopard
What scent reminds you of cutting wood?
There has to be something out that evokes this. Something that is not cloying/overpowering or sweet.

Noble Cedar by Chopard
Hmmm well chopping wood at my home, you get more of the bush smells than you do of the wood you're chopping, so there's much more grass, greenery and smoke (from the fire inside the house) going on than actual woody smells. I've not found a fragrance that smells like this.
Concerning the scent of working with wood, though, I can tell you that Crabtree and Evelyn Sandalwood, and the opening of Creed's Royal Oud both smell fairly true.
My current top ten:
1. Tobacco Vanille
2. Spice and Wood
3. 34 Boulevard Saint Germain
4. Musc Ravageur
5. Noir De Noir
6. Plum Japonais
8. Dior Homme Intense
9. L'air Du Desert Marocain
10. Ambre 114
Tam dao perhaps
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
Tam Dao definitely.
Hm, one of the DSquared2 fragrances has to fall under this category.

Hinoki by Monocle/CDG to me smells like the driest, freshest wood right before you chuck it into the fireplace to me.
I find Wonderwood to be quite sweet.
"What is this secret connection between the soul, and sea, clouds and perfumes? The soul itself appears to be sea, cloud and perfume..." - from Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis.
Chene by Serge Lutens - One is initially treated to an enveloping aura of freshly planed lumber, at once astringent, somewhat akin to the sour spitup of a baby, and yet, faintly sweet. A fruity booziness of rum as well as a syrupy immortelle, with its herbaceous, sweet hay aspect, swirl about redolent of an oozed sap. Transitioning to the awaiting middle, a rich, smoky cedar rises to usurp the opening wood, while oakmoss imparts its foresty, green bitterness, which is pleasantly offset by delightsome honey. Splashes of lemony thyme flitter about. Segueing to the enriching base, a robust birch bestows its root beer commingling with wintergreen aroma. Beeswax supplies its cured tobacco and sweet hay aspects. And, tonka bean offers its rich spiciness and smokiness. The intermingling of these scents creates a pleasing drydown. This high-quality composition has average projection and very good longevity. This somewhat rustic fragrance definitely leans to the masculine side.

Parfumerie Generale; Bois blond. Smells like the heap of freshly cut logs of birch, aspen and pine we have here every early-fall.

It immediately brings back memories of when I used to work in a dusty woodshop restoring antiques. Gucci Pour Homme has a similar dry down as well. They don't really remind me of cutting wood exactly, but more of the smell of old sawdust and woodchips.
But the fragrance that reminds me most of actually "cutting wood" is by far Dior Fahrenheit. Not cutting wood with an axe, but with a gas-powered chain saw. My Dad used to always go out cutting wood with a chain saw and when he came back inside the freshly cut wood, gasoline, and sweaty musk would all mix together and smell remarkably similar to Fahrenheit. The fist time I smelled Fahrenheit I was convinced my dad used to wear it because it brought back so many memories of him from my childhood. But my mother assures me that he never wore cologne. Now I'm certain it was just the smell of cut wood and gasoline on his skin.

Ah the smell of Home Depot...I have not found it's equal
^^^^you probably mean "Homme Depot"
Tam Dao in my opinion is just sandalwood, i think Noble Cedar by Chopard and Chene is a superb recommendation
Seems Gucci PH 1 smells much like sawdust. I can't comment but I have started to notice a lot of cedar in Gucci's Envy, so if you are happy with cedar sawdust this could be the one.

Gucci Pour Homme. (After the oil has blown away from my chainsaw cutting the wood).
Actually DeSquared's Potion is pretty close too.
