Default Convince me not to buy 'Noir de Noir' !

I've been wearing my sample all throughout this fall and I LOVE everything about it. I'm getting great longevity, at least 6-7 hrs. I can't tell much about the projection b/c I'm dabbing it from a vial, and I can kind of sense dabbing mutes it just a little.

Such a dark and sensuous fragrance comes at a dramatic price, however, and I'm having a hard time parting with even a split of 50 mL.

Any reasons why I should stay away from this alluring, captivating & magical composition of a scent?!

    Cheers,

Pfft, your wardrobe indicates that you don't own Black Aoud, Rose Oud or Oud Ispahan, so there are absolutely ZERO reasons for you not to buy it.

Did you really expect anyone here to be helpful instead of enabling?

If you love everything about it, you should get it...but I wouldn't; Tobacco Vanille and Tuscan Leather are both better and you own nothing by Amouage and your money would be better spent on that.

I always prefer to sample at least a few of the highest rated/praised frags from each house before I decide on pulling the trigger for a pricier frag. But...that's just me, as I also don't have much money to spend. I don't mind paying more for a quality niche, but I'd rather know FOR SURE that I don't like another one better, because I sure as heck can't afford 2. So, I agree with the above post, that if you haven't tried TV or TL from Tom Ford, I'd test those as well and make your decision from there. If you still LOVE Noir de Noir as much, and more than the others, then you definitely have your answer and will have no regrets or second questions.

I would like to think I played a part in making it so currently popular. I called it my #1 a year ago in a YouTube video that got 3,500 views. It's still one of my favorites.

I don't know if your wardrobe is current, but I see you don't own any niche besides a few Creeds (decants perhaps?). Well Noir de Noir was my first niche purchase. I remember my only worry back then was if it was too feminine (middle aged sexy cougar, lol). I've gotten over that now, and it seems most people have finally gone away from worrying about masculine/feminine labels these days.

Anyways, first niche "cold weather" fragrance? Yeah It doesn't get much better.

Some alternative that don't smell anything similar, but you might enjoy are Bond No. 9 Silver Factory or Montale Red Aoud.

Don't buy a bottle of it. It's a terrific fragrance, perfectly blended, smells sensual and mysterious, has exceptional projection and longevity, and is IMHO the best of the Tom Ford Private Blend. Don't buy a retail bottle...buy a split.

A 10 ml split would last long, I wouldn't recommend a full bottle. NdN is very strong and tends to be boring&feminine after some time. However if you don't have any rose-oud combinations in your wardrobe, unleash the wallet

Well... You could just do what most of us do! Even though you love it, buy numerous other cheaper and still well regarded alternatives, but eventually end up buying the expensive one anyway, having spent a lot more in the long run! That's the Basenotes way!

    - - - Updated - - -

Oh... and I think Noir de Noir is one of my favourite rose fragrances. I prefer it to Black Aoud, Portrait of a Lady, Midnight Oud, Oud Ispahan, Voleur de Roses, some cheap Arabic attars, and probably others too! But I only know that because I've tried heaps of others...

What has stopped me converting a sample into a full bottle is the femininity that I perceive in it.

However, if you love the scent, you must do it. I can't wait for the next scent to come along that wows me in the way that this one clearly wows you. Seize those moments!

Same here. I have a 10ml decant which should last me a while. I absolutely love the scent but I also find it a touch feminine (for my taste).

Yeah. Your crown jewels will shrivel up and drop off by the time you finish 5 ml, leaving you with a near full bottle to remind you of the regretful day you bought it...

If you think that you will find another elegant, unisex composition, which is high quality and well blended, in addition to bordering on the dramatic, and is dark and sensuous, with good projection and very good longevity, all of which define Noir de Noir by Tom Ford, then, positively wait.

Cheers to you sir! You've done it exactly right! I expected to see impulse buying or even blind buying, as is often the case with this sort of post, but no. You've sampled it. You've worn it. You know it. Awesome! The only reason I can think of NOT to buy it is if you want to get another sample and take a chance on waiting for an online sale somewhere - if that's even possible?

One thought: figure out the best way to pay. A credit card that gets the most points or maybe open a store card... something like that? Any chance on using eBates? Good luck!

Noir De Noir has cooties, not only that, but seriously, it's just another rose/oud scent..I mean really.

But seriously, I want that one myself..I say do it if you can cause I can't right now, lol. I will keep a split in mind in the future sometime though.

I would be lying if I said it wasn't good enough to own (cuz I do).

HOWEVER, you asked me to convince you otherwise - so I am going to offer my best arguments against it. I know it well, so I know its weaknesses......

    (1) Armani Prive Rose d'Arabie is very similar, may actually be better, and the magical part lasts a lot longer.

    (2) The great opening of Noir de Noir is weak and fragile, and falls apart. Yes, amazing, but only gets worse as it goes along.

    (3) You will be embarrassed to wear it often because it's really strong and just a tad feminine - NOT that versatile.

    (4) Chuck Norris can take down a bottle of Noir de Noir, no problem.

Hehe you guys are great I got 30 mL coming my way hopefully sometime this week, I'm super excited! I've been wearing the heck out of my small collection of NdN samples lately and the love is only growing.

I have to admit, it hasn't been very popular with my mom and her friends -- they're calling it a 'grandfather' fragrance. I can only imagine what the 20s crowd would say. I'll keep experimenting and let you guys know.

Next on the list is to get that Jag you guys mentioned. The new F type I think will do nicely 1977d1349440328-jaguar-f-type-jaguar-f-type-rear-cross-side-view-121.jpg

You can save yourself some money by purchasing Golden Boy edp, rather than Tuscan Leather. GB is actually a richer parfum than is TL. As far as Tobacco Vanille goes, I keep on buying decants and that works for me. Can't justify spending so much money on a poorly manufactured flacon.
