It's weird b/c I really don't like Bond no. 9 as a House...But I own New York Amber, and I get stopped every time I wear it as told that it smells nice...

I have worn Aventus a lot and never ever received a compliment. My girlfriend, who doesn't like it, told me it smelled like pine trees and smoke. Oddly enough, my most complimented niche by far is Royal Oud. Maybe it just works on my skin well, while Aventus does not. I've also never received a compliment from GIT.

Doesn't surprise me...Creed tends not to last long, and only has fair projection. I get compliments from cheap dept. store frags just as much as I do from Niche. Only compliments I get from GIT is people who say "Ummmm. I like Cool Water!"

Creed Silver Mountain Water by far.

I haven't gotten a compliment on Aventus yet except that it smells powdery (which i don't get).

Before I got my Aventus I made sure to get a good batch, and mine has little trouble with sillage and longevity. I started getting anxious about not getting any compliments and I applied heavily a couple times. The only comments I received were "You smell strong." I prefer MI and RO.

Does Grey Vetiver count as niche? Had some attention which always surprises me since it really only smells of grapefruit on me silver mountain water gets a bit of love too.

I realised a long time ago that the only person a niche fragrance really has to impress is the wearer.. whenever I smell something like Green Irish Tweed or Noir de Noir, I always think, 'man, people are going to love this' and generally they don't

..or at least they don't mention it if they do

Interlude Man is probably my most complimented niche scent, but I don't think it's the one people enjoy the most on me. It's so loud and unusual that it almost demands a compliment for the sake of asking "What is that?" Most people don't know how to ask about anything fashion related without giving a compliment regardless of whether or not they like it.

I think that's an important distinction: there's a big difference between Curiosity Compliments and Enjoyment Compliments. In either case, the person will say the same sort of thing: "You smell nice" or "Are you wearing cologne? It's really nice" or something like that. It can be hard to tell if they really enjoyed it, or if they're just curious about what they smelled. Loud scents tend to get a lot of curiosity compliments, but it doesn't always mean the person liked it. I suspect Interlude Man gets me some of those, and that's why even though I love it, I'm careful about where and when I wear it. I don't wear it on my first few dates with someone new, for example.

My most complimented, in terms of a scent being noticed and enjoyed is probably either Royal Oud or L'Air du Desert Marocain - it's a close call. With either of those scents, I'm talking about the later stages of the scent, not the opening or even the first few hours. Both of those can be polarizing at first but they become people pleasers after a few hours. Royal Oud and LDDM both have such awesome bases.

In summer, my most complimented niche is easily Millesime Imperial.
I have a 100ml Gucci Pour Homme 2003 that I'll swap for Reflection Man or De Bachmakov. PM me if interested.

Only been at this a short time. Received two compliments. Both Bond no. 9. One by a co-worker, Chez Bond, one from a total stranger, Scent of Peace for Him.
I know Bond no. 9 has it's haters, but I have been impressed with some of their offerings.

Old thread by the way... but still a legitimate question.

Anything from MFK (except Absolue pour le soir--which is my favorite by the way. You might get some compliments by people with good taste though): Amyris, APOM, Oud, Lumière noire, Pluriel, Absolue pour le matin. They are basically designers at niche prices that nevertheless, when everything is said and done, smell very good to the average person on the street (and I like most of them as well).

For the people that said tobacco vanille curious as to whether or not it was a older crowd or not. Plus mostly women? Guys? Or both? Personally cliche but true aventus, but dudes and girls tend to like it. I know a lot of people say MI does well. But I dont get many compliments on it off hand. Could just be luck of the draw though on the days I wear it I guess.

Nothing comes close to Aventus, (less smoky more pineapply batches) and I mean that... I probably have gotten at least minimum 60 different compliments on it in the 2 years I have been using it as a signature scent.

Here is my order of most complimented niches that I own or have used..

    1) Aventus
    2) Bleecker street
    3) tobacco vanille
    4) molecule01
    5) mancera blackline
    6) silver mountain water, imperial, virgin island water (tie)
    7) montale intense cafe
    8) xerjoff nio
