Default Caramelized sugar/ caramel for men

    Hi there!

I'm new here on Basenotes, this is my first thread!

I'm currently looking for a scent that smells like caramelized sugar / burnt sugar. When I say burnt I don't mean like is smells like burned something, what I do mean tho is the caramelized sugar! Is there such a scent? Suggest me all of them, and tell me about longevity & projection if possible.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome! Sounds like you might be looking for Aomassaï 10 by Parfumerie Générale - it's a very good, rich and woody-ambery caramel/burnt sugar gourmand. And the good news is you can find it in Sweden, at Cow in Stockholm (and possibly also Gothenburg).

I've heard good things about it, but I really don't like fragrances with alot of woods in it :/ I've got to test it out!
Do Cow have it in their real store or just the webstore?

It's available in the store on Mäster Samuelsgatan - and the woods are not too pronounced. It's primarily a caramel gourmand.

Wait, I just thought of another option, as well. Hermès Vétiver Tonka has a strong caramel ambience to it, more like toffee or praline. It has a grassy feel to it as well with the vetiver, it's great and I'm pretty sure you'd like it. If you don't know it already, check it out at NK. They also carry the Armani Privé line there, and the Ambre Soie features a very distinct anise-chocolate accord in somewhat similar territory that you might also enjoy.

I've tested all of the perfumes in the Hermessence line, and the ONLY one I really loved is Ambre Narguile which currently is my favourite scent, right after Xerjoff's Lira. I did not like Vetiver Tonka at all actually :/ too much grassiness just as you said.

    Welcome!

A material that smells like caramelized sugar is immortelle (or helichrysium). The most gourmand rendition is Lutens Jeux de peau (with its buttered bread top note as well). L'Occitane also used to have a gourmandy Immortelle de Corse. Goutal Sables is the most straightforward rendition. And then there's Dior Eau Noire, lavender top that slowly evolves into a very sweet immortelle.

Immortelle is typically one of the longest lasting materials, so these perfumes tend to last forever. Which is something many people actually do not like.

To me at least, Pure Malt dries down to a lovely caramel.

That one I do own, just wish that the anise/licorice note wasn't as strong and disgusting as it is. The dry down however, a true beauty!

Did I got a fake bottle or what? The opening is very alcoholic and licorice-y to the point where I just can't stand the smell of it. The drydown however is beautiful, nice caramel!

A*Men or the leather A*Men have a serious sugar caramel hit, slightly cloying though.

Regarding A*Men, I asked three of my friends to describe the scent when we were sampling fragrances at Sephora, and two of them said "it smells like caramel", and interestingly, the other one said it smelled like "incense".

A burnt-sugar note can be found in the following:

Corps et Ames by Parfumerie Generale - average projection and good longevity.
Tonka Imperiale by Guerlain - average projection and longevity.
Geir by Geir Ness - good projection and very good longevity.

I agree with A*men. I wore it out a couple times this week...the first 30 minutes is pretty tough to get through, but it's all smooth sailing after that.

That blue arrow by your name is throwing people off. Most men are desperately afraid of gourmands and so the suggestions you receive will all be tempered with woods and leather and such as that is typically how the noses calibrate a gourmand for men to make it suitably "masculine". I have no fear of gourmands at all and I have no fear of wearing even "feminine" fragrances if it so strikes me, but even my recommendations would probably not satisy your desire for an authentic burnt sugar gourmand. My first thought was "Une Bois Vanille" which I happen to love, but it does have a load of cedar in there.

I would suggest two things: 1) check with the ladies on the female fragrance thread as most women tend not to have a fear of unabashedly sweet gourmands minus the woods 2) check out the Demeter line which does single concept fragrances designed to capture a fragrances found in life. They have a ton of gourmands, including caramel, so perhaps you can find something there or can layer something you find there with a more complex companion fragrance.

My personal sweet favorites are the aforementiond "Une Bois Vanille", Dior "Eau Noire", and Michael Jordan "Legend".
