    Default Five O'clock au Gingembre

I love tea based frags and own Gucci PH2. I'm thinking of blind buying Five O'clock but a little hesitant because it might be too similar to GPH 2. For those of you that have experience with this frag, what do you think of it? Is it different enough to be worth the purchase?

    Thanks

Get it while the getting is good, rumor has it slated for discontinuation.

Hope my impressions, which follow ↓↓↓, help:

Five O'Clock Au Gingembre by Serge Lutens - One in initially treated to a lemony accord. Bergamot, with its bittersweet and peppery facets, commingles with a robust, sweetly floral, Earl Grey tea. This tart and tangy mixture, almost effervescent, is carried on an undercurrent of ginger, which infuses its sweet and lemony facets, to the heart. Here, the warmth and spiciness of cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg shower the lemony opening, lifting a gingerbread accord, reminiscent of speculoos, with their rich sweetness and spiciness. A balsamic and faintly buttery woodiness from cedar carries the seductive accord to the base. Transitioning, the smooth cedar is tempered by a woody and lively pepper flittering about, akin to incense, and honey, which imparts its sweetness with a touch of urine. A resinous amber infuses its vanillic and smoky facets. And, a somewhat dark and slightly musky patchouli diffuses its aromatic earthiness. A dusting of bitter cacao also presents. The interplay of the foregoing leads to a comforting drydown. This unisex fragrance leans to the masculine side, and is light and bright. A festive composition, it has average projection, a 1-foot scent cloud, and average longevity, approximately 8 hours.

Very different from GPHII IMO. I actually found it more similar to another Gucci... Envy.

    Thanks
It isn't that similar IMO. It isn't really a risky buy unless you are very adverse to sweetness, as it is sweeter than GPH2, although by no means a cloying mother.

GPH2 is one of my all time favorites. And 5 o'clock has been on my to buy list for ages! I will own this one within the next 6 months! I think it's pretty good! Waaaay better than Chergui.

Not at all similar to GpH II but certainly one of the better Lutens imo, with excellent projection and staying power.

I agree. I don't like gph2 and love 5 o'clock. They smell nothing alike. It makes me think of gingerbread cookies and sweets when I wear it. Also you can't compare lutens to designer store frags. I don't think im being snobby because i own a bunch, but the quality is overwhelmingly superior. Good deal on it here http://http://www.overstock.com/?cid...product-detail. But I like to get my free samples from lucky scent.

I want to thank everyone for their input. I just went ahead and purchased a bottle. In case anyone is looking for a good deal, you can buy it on fragrancenet for $85 with the 15% off that they're offering.
