Almost anything by Jean Claude Ellena, namely:

    Angeliques sous la pluie
Brin de Reglisse (very minimal sillage though)
    Poivre Samarcande
    Santal Massoia
    Eau de Gentiane Blanche

    I also like these:

    Kyoto
    Gaiac 10
    Bulgari pour Homme
    CKbe
Helmut Lang EDC (but it's discontinued)
    Hinoki
    Molecule 02
    Rose 31
    Lumiere Noire
    L'antimatiere
    S-Perfume

The ultimate minimalist scent would have to be Molecule 02 - it's only one molecule!

    Something other than Gendarme....
Kyoto. It fits the definition that you set forth as well as the idea that Minimalist means a scent that is spare.

Fair enough that you feel what you feel, but really I can't relate to why you are so embarrassed... I believe a little bit of research is part of the fun. Once the names are mentioned, the OP can easily look these up (or at least the vast majority) in the reviews section here and elsewhere. I write reviews on this site for nearly all the scents I ever recommend... My thought process is "Why should I replicate the effort again?" Everyone else I am sure has reasons of their own for the way they post, but I don't feel anyone should feel embarrassed about seeing it. If no one were to respond the OP would have absolutely nothing to go on... I would say they are much better off, even with just the "name dropping" you reference. Just a different point of view...

At anyrate, Wildthingy, the Discussion is In the Fragrance. To have the internal discussion, it's best to actually smell the scents. We all declare secrets here. Why ever might we then be required to explain them?

Exactly! The question was: "What is your favorite minimalist scent? The one that (...)" etc. That is clearly a request for names and that's what most of us provided. Wildthingy, I think we take the OP quite seriously and answer precisely what he asked.
Now, if the OP had asked "what is a minimalist scent?" or "does the term minimalist make sense in fragrances and how do you understand the term?" that would have been a completely different matter and interested people would then have responded to that. I think that would probably be an interesting discussion, but that was not the question.

My concern with questions and answers like these is, there is not so much to gain from it. Except running for even more choices. If a recommendation is not commented on (except the infamous +1 - btw: did someone ever dared to post a "-1"?) what is the use of it? A brief discussion of certain merits of the listed items would help, don't You agree? I personally find myself a little bit bored listing perfume names. It itches a bit too that my to some degree elaborated recommendations are ignored.

Finally I asked for deleting my account. I came to the personal conclusion that perfume can not be discussed on a level I seek for habitually. Thank You guys!

Honestly, sometimes a +1 is enough. When someone is browsing the answers and they see certain things come up again and again, they stop and think "Maybe I need to try that." I've certainly done this.

If you're not finding the discussion in other people's threads to be to your liking, perhaps the solution is to start your own threads to get the sort of conversation going that you seek. I mean, come on now. The question that started this thread was "What is Your Favorite Minimalist Scent?" That's a simple question with simple answers. (Molecule 01 FTW!!!) And that's great. If you want more of a complex discussion, try starting a thread with a complex question.

I highly-respect Comme des Garcons as a house and adore Kyoto from their Incense series...it truly is fantastic!

But, what makes it special is its depth and structure - and its use of ingredients. Quoted: "The main notes are: incense, cypress oil, coffee, teak wood, patchouli, amber, cedar and immortal flower."

Therefore, while it is an incense 'scent' - the composition to create such a wonderful and expressive fragrance is not "minimalist" by any means, in my humble opinion.

While not defined, I would say that a composition should be no more than 3-4 notes to be considered minimalistic.

    Cheers.

Honestly I was never much of a believer in minimalist scents however, Molecule 01 changed it all for me. I love that scent, it has a certain aura about it which is amazing.
