Default Recommendations on first Niche fragrances

I have been thinking about trying some niche samples out to see what they are all about. I have yet to try anything niche, but if it helps my favorite "mass market" houses are Caron and Bogart. I have smelled or tried some of the other brands, and they either don't last on me or just don't have what I like. I am planning on trying out some samples or decants, but I was hoping to get some feedback based on my likes that might help me steer clear of a fragrance or house that might not jive with me. I was thinking about ordering some Etat Libre d'Orange samples and maybe some from C&S, just wondering if there were any others that should for certain get my attention. Thanks for the help!

Are Comme des Garcons frags niche? If yes, you might want to try CdG 2 Man and Wonderwood. Both very woody and my CdG favourites.

Full Incense by Montale might be worth a try.

I second ELdO, quirky, interesting frags that highlight well the fun, experimental aspect of niche perfumery. They also have an inexpensive sample set. CDG also specializes in avant-garde stuff.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are the houses that instead do complex, rich perfumes, which should do well with a Caronian like you. For instance, Serge Lutens and Frederic Malle.

In general, though, each brand tends to have several perfumes, some interesting, some less so, so it's also about what to choose within a brand.

Already some good suggestions. Other popular "intro" niche houses to try could be: Creed, Bond no 9 & Tom Ford

Creed, Amouage, Tom Ford and Frapin would be my recommendations.

I'm a Guerlain fan and I would recommend starting with some classics like Habit Rouge, Heritage or vetiver or go a little more pricy with Derby and Monchoir de Monseiur.

1st I thought of was LIDGE or any other Guerlain (there is a split currently on).
2nd would be definitely Amouage, I have tried Jubilation XXV, Epic, Interlude, Memoir Man and all are superb. Asrar being all amazing and pricey.
3rd not sure if niche or not but Coromandel is also beautiful.
You can also order a sample pack from Maison Francis Kurkdjian.
Ormonde Man, Green Irish Tweed and Zafar are nice too.
