Thread: My Xmas gift

    Default My Xmas gift

With holiday shopping coming up, I need to give my mom and my girlfriend a heads up on what I want. The only problem is that I have quite a few options. So, I was gonna let the wonderful people on BN help me out. I can get a bottle from each, for a total of 2 bottles. Each bottle can be no more than $100. My options:

Chanel egoiste - elegant warm sandalwood and candied fruit.
Dior homme - news of the increased cocoa has me wanting this more and more
Givenchy play intense - just a wonderful, easy to find fragrance.
Viktor and Rolf spicebomb - just puts me in a great mood. Sweet, and surprisingly not spicy
Hanae mori HM - cocoa and vanilla with a citrus opening. Right up my alley
Chanel allure edition blanche - lemon and vanilla. Looking towards spring with this one
L'Instant de guerlain extreme - the ultimate gourmand, one of my favorite groupings of scents
Diesel fuel for life - because I'm young and something about the raspberries in this has me curious

I can't decide because I want all of these for different reasons. I can only have 2. I can't decide. Help!

    DH and Ego.

I have a feeling DH, LIDGE and egoiste are gonna be the main recommendations with this crowd...

You truly understand basenotes! Yeah, pretty much. One of those OP.

Oh yeah, I want to add that, in my humble opinion, Allure Homme Blanche has become the most overrated fragrance of the past year. It's okay I guess. The opening is awful lemon pledge but it dries down alright. I'd recommend Dior Homme Sport over Blanche for a similar vibe, and even then, I wouldn't really recommend DHS.

Several good ones on your list, but I would say Egoiste and Allure Edition Blanche. Two of Chanel's best.
    Seasonal favorites:

    1. Creed - Pure White Cologne
    2. Creed - Aventus
    3. Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver
    4.
by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
    5. Clive Christian - 1872
    6. Montale - Aoud Legacy
    7. Xerjoff - Nio
    8. Neela Vermeire - Bombay Bling
    9. The Different Company - De Bachmakov
    10. Chanel - Allure Homme Edition Blanche

For these cold seasons, LIDGE and Egoiste.

I'd veto Hanae Mori H.M., only because you can find it cheap online. Save it for later.

Spicebomb! ...because you like it, and because you can't find it cheap online.
If not... go with Dior Homme. Same reason.

    Enjoy!

Dior Homme and probably LIDGE even though haven't smelled it. I just happen to dislike all the others from your list so can't recommend anything else.

All have great recommendation. I would get Dior Homme Intense instead of Dior Homme. Fragrancenet has sale for a 3.4oz DHI (unboxed) if you don't care for the box. Good luck!

Skip the Fuel for Life. I purchased a 75ml...big regret (PS that was my first "Must have" fragrance).

Based on other opinions: LIDGE and Dior Homme (personally, the only one I like and know of on the list is Givenchy PI)

Go with the most difficult to source first, that should help you prioritise in some way. One way or another you're going to end getting all of them no doubt.

I would say Ego from your mom and give the rest of the list to your gf and have her pick out what she likes best; she will like how you smell even more because she helped in the creative process.
I don't recommend DH because of the lack of projection, but maybe I should test again... Maybe I got a bad sample, or maybe basenoters have a nostalgic bias for old frags (I'm looking at you, Guerlain Vetiver.)

    Chanel …goÔste!
For the second spot I would perhaps choose Dior Homme, but V&R Spicebomb is great as well, and since you like it, why not choose that one for the second spot?
