For question one I have two that come to mind.
Midnight in Paris edt I remember receiving the sample from TPC and was blown away by it. I immediately went onto fragrancenet and ordered a bottle EdP version though!!! My favorite fragrance!!!
Dior Homme (vintage) I was in Sephora smelling and I gave this stuff a whiff, and it was amazing. The lady in Sephora asked me, what did you just spray and I told her...she said omg that stuff is sooo sexy!!! I quickly grabbed the bottle up and never looked back!!!
Guerlain Vetiver and Td'H were two that I instantly loved and bought a bottle of on the spot. Heavy vetiver and pepper are my favorite.
Dior Homme Intense...first sniff and I knew this stuff had me in a trance, never imagined cologne could smell so unique and alluring.
Pure Malt opening when I smelled it back in the day blew me away and I made an impulse, crazy purchase from ebay and overpaid like crazy...now I regret purchasing since only the opening amazes me and the drydown sort of pisses me off

"A beautiful fragrance to the nose is like good jazz music to the ears, great food to the mouth, and Megan Fox and Jessica Alba to the eyes..."
The ones that made me go "WOW" were CdG Calamus and Habit Rouge EdP, made even better by the fact that neither of them cost an arm and a leg. Immediate purchases.
Nothing to report on question 2.
Life's a bitch. If it were a slut it'd be easy.
First: several, but mainly vintage formulations of scents I ended up eventually owning, like e.g. Eau Sauvage, Guerlain Vetiver, Armani Eau pour Homme, Chanel Antaeus etc., in the case of all these four and of several others, it was love at first testing and hardly any doubts and any second thoughts that I will thoroughly, passionately, consistently, permanently enjoy them, in fact, it got better with any testing, any application on my skin and any subsequent purchase of backup bottles
Secondly: non really, yet some smelled spectacular on paper, still good or acceptable on my skin, yet nowhere near the mirage of the tester strip seemed to suggest (this is the case of most mainstream designer releases of the 90s, as well as of 2000-2012, with notable exceptions confirming the rule).
Knowing by Estee Lauder. I bought it right there and then at the perfume counter in Dillards. Had a similar love at first sniff with Chinatown by Bond No 9, but that wasn't at a perfume counter. It was a perfume party and I just went and bought some samples on ebay.
Wings and White Shoulders, stink-a-roo on me.
