Question You had me at first spray

This thread is two fold. What fragrance have you tried that just blew your mind right after the first spray and just had to buy it. On the other hand. What fragrance have you tried that you loved at first spray but then as it settled on your skin you could not stand it? Looking forward to your insights.

    1) Yendi by Capucci, the perfume. I smelled it when I was about 20ish at the perfume counter in harrods. It was fearfully expensive and there was no way I could afford it then. I have a murky memory it was over ú100 an ounce all that time ago at the end of the 1980's. Utterly unobtainable for me. I never forgot it and eventually came upon a tiny bottle on Spanish ebay about 25+ years later. I still love that perfume above most others. The real perfume is vastly superior to any edt or colognes of it.
    2) Miller Harris Noix de Tubereuse. I rashly bought a huge 100ml bottle after smelling a sample just once. I wore it out with a little black dress for a Christmas party and felt like I smelled of a rotting jar of flowers all night long, whereas I would have felt beautiful and sexy in something like Coco Chanel. It isn't the perfumes fault. Tuberose and my skin just don't get on.

    1) Jubilation XXV, TdH, Millesime Imperial, Straight to Heaven, Rose 31, Mona di Orio's Oud .. these come to mind right now

    2) Parfumerie Generale Praline de Santal. It smells amazing at first, like roasted hazelnuts, quite beautiful. But within about 15 minutes it changes to something that is not necessarily bad smelling, but unbelievably generic and uninspired. I wish the roasted nut smell carried through.

Creed Jardin d' Amalfi & Millesime Imperial have great opening notes and I fell for them straight away, instant love.

Vintage D&G pour homme I really liked at first spray but it was just overpowering and never changing from start too twelve hours later. Ended up hating it.

    1. DHI, Back to Black, and GIT.
    2. Eternity. Loved the opening, but then it was just an all-day lasting soap. However...I'll add this: The last couple of times I've worn it, I didn't get as much of the soap and have actually begun to like this one again. Also Noir de Noir. Once it dries down, it's nothing but a rose scent on me. I enjoy it when rose is mixed in, but I don't enjoy smelling LIKE a rose.

    2. none; however, to the flipside of what you ask I recently applied some Molyneux - Lord from a old mini I'd forgotten about. Absolutely vile stuff if you sniff it up close. After time, however, it settles to an interesting and pleasant old-school masculine with some bite. Normally, I won't labor through an unappealing opening but this one just might be the exception to that rule.

To name a few from the ones that had me at the first sniff:

    MFK Lumiere Noire
    Straight to Heaven

I don't remember having a fragrance that I changed my mind completely about after liking it at first spray.

For question one I have two that come to mind.

Midnight in Paris edt I remember receiving the sample from TPC and was blown away by it. I immediately went onto fragrancenet and ordered a bottle EdP version though!!! My favorite fragrance!!!

Dior Homme (vintage) I was in Sephora smelling and I gave this stuff a whiff, and it was amazing. The lady in Sephora asked me, what did you just spray and I told her...she said omg that stuff is sooo sexy!!! I quickly grabbed the bottle up and never looked back!!!

Guerlain Vetiver and Td'H were two that I instantly loved and bought a bottle of on the spot. Heavy vetiver and pepper are my favorite.

Dior Homme Intense...first sniff and I knew this stuff had me in a trance, never imagined cologne could smell so unique and alluring.
Pure Malt opening when I smelled it back in the day blew me away and I made an impulse, crazy purchase from ebay and overpaid like crazy...now I regret purchasing since only the opening amazes me and the drydown sort of pisses me off

The ones that made me go "WOW" were CdG Calamus and Habit Rouge EdP, made even better by the fact that neither of them cost an arm and a leg. Immediate purchases.

Nothing to report on question 2.

First: several, but mainly vintage formulations of scents I ended up eventually owning, like e.g. Eau Sauvage, Guerlain Vetiver, Armani Eau pour Homme, Chanel Antaeus etc., in the case of all these four and of several others, it was love at first testing and hardly any doubts and any second thoughts that I will thoroughly, passionately, consistently, permanently enjoy them, in fact, it got better with any testing, any application on my skin and any subsequent purchase of backup bottles
Secondly: non really, yet some smelled spectacular on paper, still good or acceptable on my skin, yet nowhere near the mirage of the tester strip seemed to suggest (this is the case of most mainstream designer releases of the 90s, as well as of 2000-2012, with notable exceptions confirming the rule).

Knowing by Estee Lauder. I bought it right there and then at the perfume counter in Dillards. Had a similar love at first sniff with Chinatown by Bond No 9, but that wasn't at a perfume counter. It was a perfume party and I just went and bought some samples on ebay.

Wings and White Shoulders, stink-a-roo on me.
