Default Scent Somewhat Like Creed Royal Oud, But Cheaper?

Being new to the fragrance hobby, I have been amassing a collection of samples from my local Nordstrom. I have tried Aventus, GIT, Bleu De Chanel, DHI, MI, Eau Sauvage, La Nuit edt/parfum, L'eau D'issey, and probably a couple others I am not remembering right now. I never got any compliments on those (I go light as is), and so it was more for my personal enjoyment than compliments.
When I tried Royal Oud the other day I loved it, even though I can't identify individual notes. As a plus, I got plenty of compliments (for the first time!) from both genders and my girl friend preferred it to all the others I'd tried. However, the price is a bit much, and I was wondering if you guys would recommend any scents similar. I was thinking of trying Gucci Pour Homme I as I heard it had a nice incense and wood/spice smell, which is what I got from Royal Oud.
    Thanks

L'Occitane Eau de Beaux, Gucci PH II, or Spicebomb. Royal Oud reminds me of all 3 of them.

It can be expensive if buying from a retailer, but there are discounters wher you can get it for $150.00 - $175.00.

Don't know if that is still a bit more than your budget will allow, but it is out there.

$150-175 is still a bit expensive, I was thinking max around $120. And I'll have to go try Eau de Beaux, I have tried GPH II and Spice which both are similar to each other (I prefer GPH II but it has no longevity on me), but I didn't really smell the wood undertone in either of those that I smelled in Royal Oud.

What's the price? I paid about $125 for mine. Search for a deal online. I got mine from scentedmonkey, and I've also recently seen it in the marketplace on Basenotes.

I can't think of anything similar. Best to get the real thing.

If I liked Royal Oud a lot, would I like oud? Or does Royal Oud have no real oud smell in it?

Gucci Pour Homme is actually not a bad bet, though it's a little more austere than Royal Oud. Marry Gucci PH and Spicebomb and increase the quality several degrees, and add just dash of oud, and you might be close.

The only oud in it, is in the name. I couldn't detect any at all. Just sweet, woody, tea like notes.

Not necessarily. RO is not a good representation of the note.
    Try:
    Harrods oud
    M7
    Oud Wood
    Montale Aouds
    Kilian Pure Oud
    Amouage Epic

The notes might not be the same (no Oud for example) but it's definitely wood/spicy and I think you're girlfriend may like it. Chanel Egoiste, and I don't mean the Platinum one that you can find everywhere. To my nose they are very similar, but the sandalwood/rose combination in Egoiste, gives off a similar vibe to the Royal Oud. Get a 50ml and the price is much more down to earth.

I would also add, don't get Harrods oud / Montale as these are about the same price as Royal Oud.
