Default Tom Ford Private Blend vs Christian Dior La Collection Privee

This post is a combination of curiosity, research, and boredom.

    Tom Ford: Vs Christian Dior:

    Tobacco Vanille / Leather Oud
Noir De Noir / Bois D'Argent
    Neroli Portofino / Ambre Nuit
    Azure Lime / Cologne Royale

Which set of four would you start a collection with?

I would go with Tom Ford, not a big Azure lime fan but to me the previous three are more enjoyable than their Dior counterparts.

BTW, if I had it my way Neroli Portofino would replace Azure Lime and Amber Absolute against Ambre Nuit.

I also prefer Dior. Great fragrances and much better value.

I like the Tom Ford Private Blend much more. However, I have only tried two fragrances from the Dior Privee line - Leather Oud and Oud Ispahan. Wasn't impressed. Curious to see how the rest are like.

With the PB, I've tried a lot and really liked almost all of them.

I prefer the TF PB to the Dior Collection Privee in general, but for the OP's sets of four it's a close call. I'd still say TF PB.

If mixing is allowed, I'd recommend Tobacco Vanille, Noir de Noir, Ambre Nuit, and Cologne Royale.

Imo there is a perceptible stylistic difference between the two houses. If you're into refinement, go with the Dior. If you prefer it with a little more flamboyance, go with the Tom Ford.

I think there's a lot of truth in that, especially with regard to the first bunch of TF Private Blends.

    Nicely put.

Personally I find the TF line a bit 'commercial' feeling, the balance between arresting opening and pretty bland follow thru seems a bit 'grabby' to me. The Dior stuff strikes me as being more consistent from start to finish. Just a general criticism, not life or death, but I am firmly in the Dior camp.

A hard call, but diamondflame put it well. I would tend towards the TF, especially if Amber Absolute would be included.

I am not the biggest fan of either of them on the whole but definitely prefer Dior of the two, in particular with respect to the pairings you mentioned with one exception. Out of the pairings I only prefer TF in the first one.

Tobacco Vanille, Noir De Noir, Ambre Nuit, and Bois D'Argent. Why not have a little of both?

Thanks for the input guys. I am never disappointed hearing the different opinions of everyone on this site. I think diamondflame nailed it with his interpretation of the two houses.
