    Good Girl Gone Bad?

That sounds like it is the name of some new Calvin Klein scent... no wait, not even a CK scent, maybe a Bebe scent or uh, a new scent by Rihanna or something.

Forbidden Games sounds good. I always love apple and honey notes, and it's nice to see opoponax too. It looks like it will probably be very feminine though.

What? Can't a single house have contemporary, modernist and provocative lines?

Sadly they all seen a tad too fruity for my taste.

Lame names, plus, lol where is the 'good' scent? All are on the not so good side so-to-speak.

Silly names. #2 notes seem ok but perhaps too fruity..idk.

Seeing they are packaged in a clutch, I have a feeling you are 100% correct.

On a side note, with the way lawsuits can fly around, I hope they received permission to use the name "In The Garden of Good and Evil" because there was a book and movie named exactly the same except with Midnight at the beginning.

Isn't Kilian backed by some large company? I can't imagine the company lawyers would overlook that one.

His family owns Hennessy Cognac, but do not know if they are part of this venture.

As said, I hope they were smart enough to make sure everything is in order.
I never assume when it comes to trademarks or copywrite's, no matter how large the company is. Ford in their infinite wisdom, never renewed their trademark for the GT-40 name for their supercar. When they decided to bring it back, they were unable to use the name because someone else registered it. They so aptly named the car Ford GT.

Thanks for this, LupeX. l'm disappointed to hear that Good Girl Gone Bad is fruity. From the notes list, this seemed to be the only one of the three that wasn't fruity, & was therefore the most interesting to me. l will still sample it at some point though, despite the cringey name.

I hear you. I'd love for Kilian to come out with another BtB quality fragrance, I'd love to eat crow and have them remind me why I was once so excited for Kilian. But as you pointed out, the fragrances you highlighted from this house are the originals. Lately they appear to have lost their footing as they reach for a more mainstream audience. You even said yourself that none of these new ones blew you away. Hopefully in the near future they'll put out something that'll blow us both away.

The SA here in Dubai said they were launching on November 1st and Kilian himself was going to be here for it. I can't wait to try all three. Oh, and he said he has seen the packaging and women are going to love it! Definitely makes me think all the scents will be more feminine leaning.

I was told by an SA at Saks over the weekend, Kilian will also be adding another fragrance to the Asian Tales collection. The only thing she was told, it would be a peach fragrance.

She also informed me, he will also be at their store in Boca Raton in December.

He seems to be really leaning more towards the Feminine side of things with his latest launching's.

haha i must admit that picture is ridiculous.

samples of this line unexpectedly showed up today in my mail box. sprayed them on before heading out and have been sniffing all day. even worse than i expected. i've completely given up on this house. i know people will continue to shell out 300-400$ for what are basically watered down designer quality fragrances in luxe packaging with fancy shiny boxes and keys and oudless ouds and coffrets and pictures of puckered lipped french dudes with unbuttoned shirts but this garbage is flat out insulting to anyone who truly appreciates quality fragrance. i wish this house would go away. i wonder if i can write to them and ask them to remove me from their mailings. ive learned my lesson.

+1. Remmy Martin should post that picture of Killian all over the U.S. with a bottle of hennessy next to him and watch hennessy sales bomb. I've sampled three of their perfumes. None even come close to justifying the price tag. Can you imagine Andy Tauer taking a stupid fucking photo like that and advertising with it...lol. I guess that's what can happen when a ton of money and a huge ego collide.

i dont get this desperate attempt to come off as evil, dark, mysterious, sinful, forbidden, and then dump out the most generic perfumes i can imagine. i have hundreds of samples of decants on my shelves and nothing is as close to something my mom would wear as kilian fragrances are. forbidden? sinful? this stuff would be lucky to share the bargain clearance rack at a Ross.

Yes, its not best bang per buck type of perfume house, that I agree with you.

this really doesnt make sense. first a good perfume is a good perfume. i can think of many feminine fragrances that clearly aren't created for guys like me yet i can appreciate them as incredible fragrances. if your theory were true, people like luca turin wouldn't even be able to review most the fragrances in his book. i'm not a fan of country music at all either but i certainly discern the difference in quality between a classic like merle haggard and something like garth brooks or even taylor swift. my point is you don't need to be their target audience to make a judgement call on the quality.

What makes a good perfume? Something that someone smells and likes enough to purchase it. Luca Turin nor anyone else's opinion, doesn't really matter, they are not the final arbiter. The final arbiter is the person who purchases the perfume, end of story.

You may not think it is a great perfume, my GF may have a differing opinion. She happened to sample all three, and not sure which, but she enjoyed a couple of the new ones immensely, and will be adding one or two to her collection. Does this mean she has bad taste or cannot discern quality?

  56. #56

you're turning this into something its not. i gave a negative opinion, and in response was told 'well your opinion doesn't count because you're not the target audience'. if your gf loves it that's great, but it doesn't mean anyone who dislikes it "isnt the intended audience" and thus has no grounds to dislike it. that was my point.

OK, so I got all three as complimentary samples from lucky scent. I'm unimpressed.

As a female that quite regularly buys expensive perfumes, I'm not personally a huge fan of this line. I think for the price, the scents - save a precious few - are pretty mediocre. In many ways, By Kilian reminds me of Tom Ford's Private Blend line - a couple of decent scents and a whole barrage of sub-par ones. Look, I don't mind dropping $200+ on 50ml of perfume, but I'll be buggered if I'm going to do so for a run of the mill scent. For the most part, people - men or women - who spend this kind of money on scents are aficionados and connoisseurs and collectors, and these are, as often as not, discerning people.

The only niche house which churns out good, memorable scents regularly is Serge Lutens. I think By Kilian is going through a Montale phase - putting out too many new scents, none of which particularly stand out.

Oh, and I'm probably in the minority of one, but I find the gaudy packaging complete with golden snake and all pretty OTT. Give me a minimalistic Serge Lutens or Frederic Malle bottle with a stonking good scent any day.

I really like By Kilian,I think they have good scents. The stuff I got today I gave to my mother because I don't wear perfume. I'll agree there stuff is a bit pricey.

I wasn't referring to quality assessment. I was talking about By Kilian, fancy box, key, vivid imagery, naming and other eye candy, as a whole. Since you clearly criticized it, I stated that you're note even the target customer to begin with.

    I'm referring to this:

but this garbage is flat out insulting to anyone who truly appreciates quality fragrance.
You have to realize not everyone is on the same financial wavelength. Heaven forbid you find out people make a effort to get on 1 to 2 year waiting lists to buy a leather bag for $10,000 and a stainless steel watch for $12,000.

A lot of people, with excellent taste and plenty of disable income , do not need to actually completely fall in love with a perfume to buy it. I guess you can say the greater the disposable outcome the less the need to nitpick and attain 'best bang per buck'.
Some people will walk into a department store and buy Aventus, Chergui, Pure Oud, Sycomore and the In the Garden of Good and Evil while at the same realizing that some of the perfume purchases are excellent and others very nice.

I'm pretty sure this is the target market. Nothing wrong with it.

You may not think it is a great perfume, my GF may have a differing opinion. She happened to sample all three, and not sure which, but she enjoyed a couple of the new ones immensely, and will be adding one or two to her collection. Does this mean she has bad taste or cannot discern quality?
Your GF is what I meant in target customer. 'Ohh this smells lovely, I'll take one'.
My mother and sisters are like this. They don't go into the nitty gritty of things. If it smells nice it's nice. That's it. No comparing it to Tauer or Wasser in his early days. No discussion of trinkets and imagery. It's a whole package people enjoy.
