Default Please help me with classification

Well I enjoy the forum and the world of fragrances intensively!

So far I have bought what I like with the help of the BN's but I don't know wich type of fragrances they are? I read words like gourmands, powdery, oriŽntal, woudy etc Can you help me with the classifications of mine?

These are the fragrances I love:

    A*Men
    Le Male
    Jaipur Homme EDP
    Dior Homme Intense
    Spicebomb
    L'instant de Guerlain Homme Extreme
    La Nuit de l'Homme EDP
    Midnight In Paris EDP
    Eau Des Beau l'Occitane
    Eau D'Orange Verte
    One Million

When I know the type and the things that are similar, I will find other great fragrances!

    Thank you in advance!

There are several classifications (eg Michael Edwards etc). For instance, I don't think gourmand is part of the Edwards classification, but it is of course used a lot now.

So I'd classify A*Men, DHI and One Million under gourmand/sweet. Le Male too, to some extent though it's not as dense as the others. Eau des Baux is woody-spicy, spicebomb spicy, and eau d'orange vertes a citrus.

Multiple classifications, as mentioned. However, that list looks to be dominated by gourmands.

Thank you for that post as well, southerngardens!
I won't lie. I checked the chart, and got excited when I read "Pure Lavender." For a second, I thought TM had made something new!

I'm not good and this either, so right or wrong, I go to Fragrantica and use their classification of frags. Then, I find common themes of classifications, ingredients, etc. that I like/don't like.

    There are :-
Genres e.g. orientals, gourmands, chypres etc.
Subtypes e.g. Aromatic, floral, citrus-woody, etc
    Notes/accords descriptions that can be
    - textural e.g. powdery, dry, dewy, creamy etc
    - temporal e.g. evanescent, tenacious, fleeting etc
    - olfactorial e.g. tart, smoky, hesperidic, etc
    - others (as you see fit)

Imo a good way to get a quicker handle is to sample a few fragrances from the same family/genre, subtype or dominant note/accord. You'll start to notice similarities and subsequently variations in similar compositions. Hanging around BN helps too, esp over at the Notes Exploration forum.
