Default Mugler Cologne (2001, for men)

I just got this one in the mail and I like it. Easily one of my favorites from Thierry Mugler, next to Pure Malt.

A soapy clean "irish-spring" opening with grassy vetiver undercurrents. This is the scent for people who like vetiver, but don't want something as potent as a Tom Ford scent.

If I had to compare it to one designer fragrance, I'd compare it to Eau Fraiche by Versace (since they both have a clean citrus top with a woody base beneath), but I'd say Mugler Cologne does it much better than Eau Fraiche. I hear this is similar to Original Vetiver by Creed. But I haven't tried OV yet.

It's not ostensibly memorable, but in subtle ways, it does what most fresh fragrances try to do, but much better. Subtlety matters, as there are a ton of fresh scents, but they just smell like alcohol and cheap floral notes.

It's well-priced at $40 for a medium-sized bottle. It is versatile (you can where it any possible place that you can think of). It's a clean scent for those times that you don't want to smell musky or like a guy whose wearing way too much cologne. This is safe, and perfect for a job interview or work (if you decide to wear cologne). I don't imagine this offending anyone, as long as you don't spray too much.

It's gotten a lot of acclaim on this forum, especially from the people who collect a lot of niche.

For those who haven't heard of this, I recommend you sample this one. This is a staple in even the most diverse collection.

What are your thoughts on it?

    I rated it "very good".

    ---

    EDIT:

Honestly, Mugler Cologne is not as safe as people say it is. There is still that shrill neroli opening and that grainy vetiver background that can be headache inducing to some people. For some, it does remind them of soap. For others, it will be way too chemical.

It's a good fragrance but don't be fooled into thinking this is a fragrance for people who don't want to smell like cologne.

I have to try this one. I have OV, would be very interested to know how similar it's on my skin, because lot of people compare them.

Very Good from me as well. Others complain about longevity, but I get at least 8 hrs. Practically identical to OV and at a drastically lower cost.

Great, and it was my SOTD yesterday.

This was the fragrance that got me hooked on fragrances. If it weren't for the fact that it's sold at Macy's for virtually the same price as other, more popular designer fragrances, people would classify it as niche. I get a full day's worth of wear out of 2-3 spritzes.

Excelent cologne, I use at least 15 sprays to fulfill my desires of longevity and sillage with this one.
Brilliant stuff, ultra clean, soft but with character.

I'd rate it "very good" as well. It's not mind-blowing, but it's something that can be worn pretty much by anyone in any situation and never offend anyone else. It's the true definition of a unisex fragrance, because of this, IMO. On my skin, I found it to develop slightly more feminine, and for some reason, just couldn't bring myself to wear it all that often, so I swapped my 100 ml. There are still times when I wouldn't mind giving it a sniff, but I don't really regret it, as I was able to swap it for some TDH parfum, which I enjoy much more.

One of my absolute favorites and will always be in my collection.

Also, people often compare Original Vetiver to Mugler Cologne yet I love Mugler Cologne and I can't stand Original Vetiver

just when i thought mugler cologne was the safest thing in creation.

i casually asked someone i knew what they thought and they said it was the 2nd worst cologne they ever smelled.

that it smelled like witch hazel and rubbing alcohol, like a wound treating fluid.

There's nothing quite like it and I think it's a desert island scent. I see the cost has drifted down. On my wish list. Been awhile since I owned a bottle. Great! Very satisfying and uplifting. Potent sillage and better than average longevity. I'm intrigued by those who say that Creed's Original Vetiver is similar to this. That's something I must try.

    GREAT!!!

This is my favorite Mugler fragrance and it was my most worn for Spring/Summer 2012, as well as being one of my comfort scents.

This is one that will always be a part of my fragrance collection without a doubt!!!!

No way they would delete this wonderful fragrance. If they did, I would most definitely make it my first ever backup bottle because I need this stuff in my life. Lol

Wow! This is obsurd! I can understand that many would not be intrigued by a fresh soap scent, thus resulting in minimum sales.

I actually find it quite unpleasing and rate it "bad." It walks the line of too boring to give attention to and ever so mildly disgusting.

I get that it's easy to wear and barely there, just to me that's a negative.

I voted 'very good' I actually cannot tell the difference between this and Creed OV when wearing one on each wrist.

I have to admit I'm not a big fan which kind of surprised me since I'm usually a fan of so-called barbershop scents.
I don't have a signature fragrance. My signature changes a little bit every day, why shouldn't my fragrance?
