Default Is there such thing as a 'fresh' winter fragrance?

My winter scents this year are CdG 2 Man and Dior Homme Intense. I'm a big fan of both and think they are definitely suited to winter as they are warrm, deep and heavy fragrances. I got thinking though: is there such thing as a fresh and clean fragrance that works better in cold weather than heat? I tested a few fragrances today that I really enjoyed (Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte, Mont Blanc Legend, Tom Ford for men) but none struck me as cold weather scents.

    Any suggestions gentlemen?

When I think fresh winter fragrances I think fresh orientals or oriental fougeres, like Le Male, YSL La Nuit de l'Homme, and the like.

I think Geranium Pour Monsieur, with its freshness derived from mint, is a good winter fragrance.

Creed Himalaya actually does well is cooler weather imo. I suppose it also depends on how cold it gets where you are, but in the 40's (f) and up it does quite well and is a fresh scent.

Interesting thread - to me, good fresh scents with crisp aromatics are actually year-round. Some, however, actually go on really well with cool weather (including rain).

Two scents that come to mind immediately are Oxygene Homme by Lanvin and Hugo by Hugo Boss. These are fresh scents that actually enjoy the cool air.

I also find Guerlain Vetiver (current and 2000 formulation) to show very well, as does Givenchy's Vetyver (from the Les Parfums Mythiques line) and there are more.

Sport scents don't hold up to the cold very well - but indoors at home, they are just as good...as well as at the gym.

I could list more - but the key is to find notes that, on your skin, can cut through the cold air and not just fade out. I recommend applying fragrances to clothing in cold weather as well - it is nearly a "must". Fabric will retain the scent and evolve slower than skin. But, you definitely need to spray on your skin, of course.

    Cheers,

    ericrico

I agree with Creeds Himalaya as the ice cold fresh white muskyness does seem to compliment the colder weather quite well.

Agree with Himalaya. The Ginger gives Creed Tabarome Millesime some freshness. Penhaligons Douro might fit the bill too. On the designer front, CK Eternity.

I think of CK One Shock the moment I see "Fresh" and "Winter" or "Fresh and Gourmand" in the same sentence.

Definitely Creed Himalaya. When I am bored/tired with all the tobacco and spices I wear in the winter (lately), I reach for this. It's clean, icy, and just lovely.

Another for Creed Himalaya. It's clean/fresh, but has a warmth & muskiness to it that to me would work best in cooler/colder weather.

I'll second the mention of Guerlain Vetiver, as the tobacco note gives it warmth, but without losing vetiver's freshness.

A current favorite is L'Artisan Timbuktu, which is decidedly green in its way, but seems to work fine in colder weather.

Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Terre d'Hermes yet. The warmth and spices ground the freshness of the citrus, making this as easily worn in December as it is in July.

Frederic Malle's Geranium pour Monsieur immediately comes to mind .... starts with minty freshness and ends with a subtle musky patchouli base.

Lots of fragrances do great year round, and act differently under different weather.

Prada Infusion, Kouros, Fahrenheit, Givenchy Gentleman, Quorum, Grey Flannel, Agua Brava, Caron PUH, Yatagan, Fleur Du Male La Cologne, Rive Gauche PH..
These are some fragrances I like to wear year round.

Yes, I forgot to mention the wonderful classic, Grey Flannel.

+1! Great outdoor scent - lovely with cold weather, rain, and falling leaves...

I agree with bolded. I actually like TdH better in Winter. The woods and spice stand out and the citrus gives an uplifting feeling. I completely bought into it years ago in Winter.

I agree with TdH. Lovely year round but very lovely in cold weather. Elixir de Merveilles is a feminine version (for my nose) and is a bit more gourmond-ish and is also great in the winter.

I agree with Terre d' Hermes EdT as well. I bought it in the summer of 2006 and only used it in warm weather. But a girl I was with a few years ago suggested it works well in winter too and I started to sue it year round. Now I have the Parfum and use that in the cold weather but the EdT is also going to perform well.

GIT in cold (and even wet) weather is one of the few times I can see myself wearing this scent. I don't own it anymore but I can definitely see this as a fresh winter scent.

    Another one for Himalaya.

I also prefer Silver Mountain Water as a cold, winter scent as well.

I went with L'Instant de Guerlain, the EDT. Love the opening and the dry down. Warm yet fresh at the same time. Much preferable to Givenchy's Play Intense in my view. Lovely stuff. Thanks for all the ideas gentlemen.
