Default My review after visiting various NYC perfumeries Part II

Fredrick Malle - I missed them, they closed at 6 PM

Creed Royal Water - Yeah, this is not for me. Smells very lemony and zesty. Too sour. C-

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille - I tried to give this another try, I thought maybe I missed something in the dry down? Nope, this is 0-2. That honey smell is disgusting. F

Tom Ford Tuscan Leather - I wanted to purchase this on the spot. What time does Saks Fifth open tomorrow morning? I'll be running to the store like this . . . .

I'm now curious how this Tuscan Leather and Avetnus layering works, do you just spray both equally at a spot?

Also, lastly, would you guys wear this during Spring and Summer? Could this be overwhelming/offensive during warmer weather?

This is an extremely sexy scent.

For now, I give this an A+

Creed Himalaya - This smells like fresh cleaned clothes out of the dryer . . . or better yet fresh ironed clothes. This is not worth a purchase, however. C

Le Labo Jasmin 17 - LOOOOOOOOOOOOL, this smells EXACTLY like orange fruit loops. I dont know how to rate this. Is smelling like orange fruit loops a good thing?

Creed Millesime Imperial - I decided to smell this again and I was blown away. I already like this but I like it even more now.

Which is better Millesime Imperial or Virgin Island Water?

However, before I buy a FB of this I have to further test out the longevity. I noticed that compared to other Creed frag that I sprayed on cards, the MI card lost its scent faster than the rest.

    A-

Creed Pure White Cologne - The fresh grapefruit!!!!!!! This smells so good!!!!

Sounds like a fun visit. You missed nothing with Tobacco Vanille. Malle sounds like an interesting visit.

Sounds like you had a very interesting time in the Big Apple trying out a nice assortment of scents.

Are there any fragrances that smells like Pure White Cologne? I smelled this on people before, but I get the feeling they weren't wearing Creed.

I definitely miss NYC. As for the polarizing Tuscan Leather it is one of my favorites. In my opinion it can be a tough wear in hot weather during the day if you are outside. At night in air conditioning if you are not surrounded by a million people and you go light...yes. Nice cool spring evening...absolutely. It is hard to define absolutely as I do not classify seasonal scents, I just try and use my best judgement.

I LOVE Pure White Cologne - I am really looking forward to summer (for a lot of other reasons too) - this will be something I will be wearing a lot this year. On really hot days, this one is tops.

If you are looking for a very cheap (but not quite as incredible - but still quite nice) substitute, try Burberry Weekend. Not the same, but they seem to be somewhat similar. I am not sure if that is what you are smelling on others, or some other EdC of some sort, but once you get familiar with the Creed, it's hard to settle for something similar.
    Seasonal favorites:

    1. Creed - Pure White Cologne
    2. Creed - Aventus
    3. Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver
    4.
by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
    5. Clive Christian - 1872
    6. Montale - Aoud Legacy
    7. Xerjoff - Nio
    8. Neela Vermeire - Bombay Bling
    9. The Different Company - De Bachmakov
    10. Chanel - Allure Homme Edition Blanche

TL is IMHO the best leather in the business with saffron/real time leather being a one two combo and obviously the raspberry note etc do an amazing job as a supporting cast in the blend and agree with you...it's amazing : btw it goes well with Aventus layered upon it ...I do spray Tuscan leather first then Aventus immediately in same spots ..2-3 sprays is more then enough....and please understand I don't layer anything else and don't like doing it with Aventus which I consider a L'ouevre by itself but experimented with afore mention scents and love that extra intoxicating vibe TL adds to an already superb frags..... (TL is sprayed first)
-Now MI is a scent that has short life span , so be ready to get an atomizer to retouch on long warm days as I considered it a warm weather juice and a mile better then VIW IMO.....peace

Yeah, the reason I ask is I'd prefer if there arent other frags that smell exactly like Pure Cologne. I'd hate to buy something expensive and it has a twin brother for 30 dollars.

    LOL…your gifs are hilarious.

Just discovered Tuscan Leather myself and couldn't be happier with it, but I definitely think it could be a tough wear in the warmer months. I think April/May is going to be about the cut-off date on it for me.

As far as Millesime Imperial, I get anywhere between 4 to 6 hours with it, which for a light, summer type of fragrance isn't bad. And it's a nice 4 to 6 hours, MI is an excellent fresh fragrance, and there's really nothing else (other than Unforgivable) that smells like it, and Unforgivable isn't nearly as good.

And now I really want to try Pure White cologne. There's been a little talk about it around here lately, and Pure White and Selection Verte are two I'd really like to try out. But they're both so expensive! And I think they're only available at the Creed Boutique. I don't think Saks carries them. Have you ever tried Erolfa? I tested that out last week (along with Neroli Sauvage) and was pretty impressed, you might want to check it out the next time you go on a sampling spree.

Nice write up, I enjoyed reading it!

Thanks, yeah I actually meant to add Erolfa to my review. I would give it a -C. Perhaps I'm biased because I already have so many Citrus scents. Before I buy another Citrus It would have to be a must-have. For example, I'm tempted to buy Pure Cologne.

Also, yesterday, I eventually bought Tuscan Leather.

I didn't like Tobacco Vanille when sprayed in store. But took home a sample and tried it on all day, fell in love. Completely different experience.

I have the paper strip with me, so I was able to get the dry down. The only redeeming quality I could think of is that sometimes it smells like rice pudding. *shrugs*

    Update.

I used a decant of Creed's Pure cologne today and once again i was impressed. It had the right amount of projection and longevity. My free decant is almost finished so I was debating buying a FB of this. So I checked online and ummm . . . . . I didnt expect it to be THAT expensive. Creed's bottles are already pricey but this is a new level.

Good choice on the Tuscan leather, I love that one as well.

Something a really good tom ford product specialist made me try was to layer a little cafe rose with the TL - I was resistant to try it, but ended up buying a bottle as it's quite good!

TL is one of the best Leathers in the business IMO. On my want to purchase list. Maybe next Fall. Nice reviews.

    Here's a couple I came across today.

Chanel Antaeus - I searched long and hard for this. And after a long wait, I finally was able to get a whiff of this, and here was my reaction:

I dont understand why this is so beloved. Maybe because its has a niche smell but for designer price? F

Montale White Aoud - I'm a fan of Oud. Smells like something a high class musician would wear. I would wear this if I wanted to stand out in an outdoor winter event. C

Egoiste - Not my cup of tea. Ugh. F

Platinum Egoiste - Sweet sporty scent. I'm sure theres a cornucopia of designer fragrances that smell like this. Regardless, it gets the job done. C

Clive Christian 1842 - Meh, pretty forgettable. Not my kind of fragrance. D

LOL, lot of the fragrances you failed, have a big following here on Basenotes.
I personally love Antaeus and get compliments for it. It is a great powerhouse fragrance.
Tobacco Vanille is a huge favorite, though I am not a fan of it either.
