Default I am tired of the WEAK. I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!

I am getting tired of all the weak scents I am coming across these days. It seems like every new fragrance I sniff or try it doesn't project well or last long. That's where I need your help basenotes. I am looking to add to my collection some true powerhouses with monster projection and outstanding longevity. Do you have any recommendations? They don't have to be powerhouses per se but atleast in nature. I do own a few. I have Giorgio by beverly hills. Lapidus Pour homme. Red by Giorgio. Is there anymore I maybe missing? Thanks

Anything in the Amouage line should float your boat.

Well, you already own the best of course. ;-) That said, you may want to try out vintage Bijan for Men and Bogart pour Homme, as they are both quite potent (and also quite good, IMO).

    Vintage RL Polo's the answer!!!

Failing that, try soaking yourself in a tub of Cambodian oud oil. Don't forget to report back here.

Many leathers still last a long time and project well. From Bandit (green + leather) to Rien (potent animalic leather), to Knize Ten and many others. And then there's the Montale line of ouds.

Tom Ford Private Blends; strong stuff but expensive. Zino by Davidoff is a much cheaper alternative, very radiant scent.

First off, vintage Bijan pour Homme is much better than the current version, so I would not let your dislike for the reformulated current stuff deter you. That is not to say you will automatically like vintage Bijan, but if you like GfM I would wager there is a very good chance as they definitely occupy a similar space in the powerhouse realm... Bogart pour Homme is a completely different animal than those two. It is the 2004 release, but a powerhouse in every sense of the word despite its release date. It has extremely powerful projection and longevity. As for its scent profile, think somewhat sweet, cherry pipe tobacco. It is a bit synthetic smelling, but really not in a bad way, IMO; and its very reasonably priced with full bottles going for around $20 on eBay last time I checked.

Fragrances that I have received the most compliments on from very far away is

    Midnight in Paris EdP

Though A*Men and Aventus are said to be projection monsters, on me MIP is beastly. Not sure if there is some chemical in it that meshes well with my skin and projects but I have gotten compliments from across rooms with this stuff and I have received compliments 6 hours after applying from 10ft away.

Quite true. When I sampled, I put just one spray on the back of my hand & my wife could smell it from across the room later, easily 10 feet away. I got the opposite reaction from you, however, as my wife said it was one of the worst colognes she's ever smelled on me. Maybe it just turns bad on my skin, but I had to agree with her...that rubber note is just so potent, I couldn't handle it at all.

As for the OP's original question, I'd say get a sample/small decant of Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille. One of the strongest & longest lasting juices I've come across (that also smells amazing).

My recommendation is definitely Joop! Homme. Out of my 40+ bottles this is by far the most powerful and lasts well over a day. I have to apply it a full hour before even going out

When I wore Escada pour Homme, my wife smelled it two rooms away (only sprayed each wrist once).

Back to Black by Kilian is a monster for me. Heavy projection and lasts forever.

Pure Malt usually does the trick. It projects well, and lasts a decent amount of time (12 hours or so on me)
I actually think PM outperforms Angel in the projection and longevity field. I can get away with 3 sprays of A*Men, but anything more than 2 becomes cloying with Pure Malt.

I can actually pick up a bottle of jazz for a reasonable price but it would be blind. Can you comment on what it smells like and longevity?

    + A*Men

    Cacharel Pourl'homme
    Chanel Allure PH
    Lalique L'hommage a l'homme

Well, Bogart pour Homme was a blind buy for me too, and it was a good one in my case. If you like the smell of cherry pipe tobacco and don't mind it being somewhat synthetic then I would say it is pretty safe. Worst case, it is inexpensive so you would not be risking a lot of cash... Good luck!

Hey guys I actually picked up two new scents this weekend and wanted to see what you think. I got Sung homme and Ice men by thierry mugler. Sung homme is very interesting it fits the bill of having that powerhouse character I was searching for. Ice men is not a powerhouse but I love the patchouli in it. I am still searching for your recommendations and will report back when I am successful.

I was going to suggest Sung Homme. It is strong enough that 2 sprays is enough to project and last all day; 1 on the chest, 1/2 on each side the neck. One time when I accidentally wore 3 sprays, my dad told me that it might harm the elderly :S

It is very synthetic, which some basenoters really don't like. To me, this is synthetic done right because it is pungent and different from other fragrances, yet familiar at the same time in its use of some chemicals that I'm sure I've smelled before. It doesn't smell cheap. It doesn't have a lot of note separation but it does evolve over the course of 14 hours: First fresh and spicy, then spicy and fresh with a bit of wood, with a woody and spicy vibe in the final drydown.

Just don't put too much on or it can get really overpowering!
