Default Something spicy please... and something strange...!

    Hi all!

I like Spicebomb a lot! But let's be honest... it's not that spicy and it doesn't last that long...

Which fragrance do you suggest for me to sample?

    __________________________

I like "strange" fragrances too... lol... like Narciso Rodriguez FH. Any other suggestions?

    Thank you!

If you can get it the sadly deceased Gucci Envy for Men has a very refined spicy scent - it's not that pricey and widely available on e-bay.

In terms of strange - do you have any types you prefer - leather, fougeres, chypres even?

Bang by Marc Jacobs; lots of pepper and woods. I hated the opening pepper blast, but give it a little time to sort itself out on you skin and you get a pretty decent fragrance.

Spicy and strange? You need to seek out the great house of O'driu (at least to sample) as no one IMO does it better (and I mean strange in a very good way).

For a couple great spicy offerings that really are not strange, but quite good despite this, try Padparadscha by Satellite or Idole de Lubin by Lubin. The former is particularly recommended if you like fiery compositions as it has an amazing chile pepper note in the scents heart. It also is quite value priced for a niche scent at $80 for a 100ml bottle.

Serge Lutens has a lot of striking spicy things, for example, Ambre Sultan and Arabie.

If you like spicy then you would really enjoy, the now discontinued, Gucci Pour Homme 1. Very nice and spicy.

I adore Creed Royal Oud. If it were not so damn expensive, it would be my signature scent. Good recommendation.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Slumberhouse yet, but since they are my new favourites, I will.

Rume is ginger-cookie spicy; Jeke is a smoke-sweet-spicy; Grev is a spiky sort of herbal cologne spice. (I personally find Grev the "strangest.") The finish of Jeke lingering in my clothes does rather resemble the Spicebomb nozzle I whiffed recently in The Bay.

Someone, I think the esteemed drseid, said that O'Driu was the perfected evolution of what Slumberhouse is aiming for... it probably is. I don't know about you, though -- but I'm likely not going to get the chance to test-drive O'Driu*, let alone ever own any of it!**

    * And I don't know if I want to, just as I've carefully avoided trying on any Rick Owens jackets. They are both too rich for my blood and I don't want to love them.

** Although -- whoa, if I get to pee in my perfume, how could I resist?

Also forgotten to add: Arber by the Body Shop and, at the opposite price category, Opus 1870 by Penhaligons

Spicebomb is lovely, but indeed, it's more a tobacco and vanilla scent than a spice bomb. Adding to the recommendations here, as a spice fan myself, check out Comme des Garçons EdP (original), which I'm wearing from a sample right now and really enjoying for its warm spicy strangeness; and Comme des Garçons Incense Series: Jaisalmer, which is the spice bomb I expected the V&R to be.

As far as "strange" I like the smell of incense a lot.

    Thank you!

If you like spice I recommend Comptoir Sud Pacifique's L'eau Du Gouverneur and Annick Goutal's Mandragore, and if you like spicey-strange I recommend Annick Goutal's Sables. I've been sniffing fragrances for a very, very long time and I've never come across a scent like Sables. It regularly causes me to get odd looks, and part of the weirdness is the fact that a few sprays can (this isn't hyperbole) damn near last a week on skin. So the shelf-price is actually a major bargain.

If you don't like immortelle though you won't like Sables.

For more generic, inexpensive or easily obtainable spicey fragrances I say see if you can test Mandarina Duck's Pure Black. The evolution is fun and it's got a great pepper note which, along with the tobacco, keeps the vanilla dry down very dusty and organic as opposed to foody. Women seem to really like the smell of this one for some reason.

Another I really dig is Kenzo Jungle Pour Homme. Awesome bottle, and great exotic smell. Also unlike many orientals this is wearable in warmer weather.

Lastly I say sample Xeryus Rouge as it's incredibly 'out there,' for a designer comp and definately spicey, as in burn-your-nose spicey.

Edit - just read you like incense. CDG's incense series is pretty good.

Ah, spice and incense, eh? Well, then something like the discontinued but still readily available on eBay Cacharel Nemo should be right up your alley. If you prefer niche, then Jubilation XXV by Amouage would be an excellent choice, IMO.

Frapins Caravelle Epicee is very spicy and a good Winter scent.
Encre Noir is dark and smoky and a strange vetiver based fragrance.

Estee Lauder Cinnabar is a smack in the face of spicyness. I don't care for it, but it's definitely spicy!

+1 Gucci really seem intent on destroying their back catalogue and replacing them with some of the dullest fragrances known to man.

Comme de Gacons Man 2 has a whole cathedral full of incense if you mean the church variety.

Do you mean the marketed to women fragrance - some other people have suggested this to me for a man...?

If you've got any other suggestions of perfumes that cross the gender divide why not post them on the thread 'what female scents are deadlier on the male?'...

Yep that's the one I mean! I actually wasn't sure if you were a guy or a girl (I see its in your profile now, either I missed it before or it wasn't there lol.) so I just said the first thing that came to mind when you said "spicy".

Amber (straight up amber resin or oil) is pretty darn spicy too...really sweet and spicy. Totally unisex. Check Whole Foods for it.

I don't know any others...I have much more experience with crossing the gender divide the other way!

I've had a lot of wear out of "Incensed Short Fuse" by Smell Bent (smellbent.com) lately. It's not overly churchy of an incense, so it isn't overflowing with copal, frankincense, or myrrh...instead, the incense takes a backseat to the initial kick of pepper and cardamom and other spices that is pretty intense. It's a little less sweet than Spicebomb, and like all of the Smell Bent line, a great price for a FB.
