    Default Leather 50 (Cuir 50) ?

I've just recently started playing with Leather 50 and really love it. Alas, I also discovered that it is no longer usable (due to the birch tar, I believe).
Is there anything that approximates or smells similar to this? You guys were such a huge help when I was looking for Dorinia SA that I though if anyone could help it would definitely be found here.

    Thanks in advance!

One option you could consider would be to make your own leather accord. If you want to do that a great place to start would be the Perfumer's Apprentice Leather Accord which you can also buy ready-made from them if you prefer. The Safraleine included in that accord is a wonderful material that I use often and is the key to it.

An alternative is Cuir Base 184028 by Firmenich, which is excellent. Another material I think is really good in this area is Suederal LT by IFF which smells just like new suede to me.

I have stock of Safraleine if you have trouble buying it in the quantities you need but currently not of the others (though Suederal LT I'm likely to re-stock over the next few months).

PA actually stocks both safraleine and suederal LT in addition to their own leather key accord. Safraleine is a wonderful ingredient in low concentration, but it's very strong and sharp if overused. When I first smelled the pure stuff it almost pierced my brain through and through!

    What is this Leather 50?

Chris, I haven't seen your Cuir Base 184028 base either... Hmmm, where to get it...?

Thanks for the input Chris. I actually do have Safraleine and Suederal LT. I'd be very interested in Cuir Base 184028 but don't think I can find it here. I'll do some research.
    Thank you again!

Sort-of Safraleine anecdote: Ever since I smelled Safraleine I have an association in my mind between leather and saffron. (I used to think saffron smelled like myrrh, which also has that tobacco angle in it.) In Sweden, where I live now, they have saffron buns that they eat at Christmas. I think they taste like the air in an expensive boutique, like a Chanel boutique or a store with leather bags. So I told someone that I thought they tasted a bit like leather, and she said that now when she ate them she always thought of leather.

OK just quickly - I don't have the original Leather 50 - but I do have a small amount of Cuir Base 184028 which is sold in the UK by Azelis - you'd need to ask your local Firmenich distributor (Vigon in your case Paul).

As ever with these things if there is sufficient interest I'm happy to buy some in and sell it on but Cuir Base 184028 is not otherwise on my current shopping list.

I'm struggling to keep up with messages, email and ingredient requests as I'm prioritising people who are buying finished products for Christmas - once that's over I'll try to come back to questions on this forum as well as the other things I've been neglecting!

I'm re-stocking Suederal LT, so if anyone is still looking for it, I shall have it available from next week.

I got the sample of the Firmenich Cuir Base 184028, it is very nice. But it is pricey.

I wish I could try the Cuir 50 though...

Toni/Atriel, Where did you obtain your Cuir 50?

I've subsequently discovered that this Leather 50 Base is an Appell formula.

Ah! Sorry I should have made that connection before - I have a copy of his book - do you?

Unfortunately there appears to be an error in the notation of the formula for Cuir 50, at least in my copy, though I think I can work it out. Let me know if you need the formula anyway.

I have the Leather 50 Formula, I just didn't realize it at the time... And I have the Appell Formulas in their collapsed notations, but the Leather isn't in that, which came in a PDF. But I just found a Copy of the book at a pretty good price, so I bought the whole book yesterday, I'll get to pour over it now and see what else I've been missing...

I am interested in learning more about Leather 50 Formula but can't seem to find a copy of Appell's book for less than $2,000 USD. Can anyone suggest a more affordable source for this publication?
