I'm a high school senior who got hooked onto colognes about 2 years ago. I have many popular scents that include:
- Issey Miyake
- Polo Black
- One Million
- Le Male
- Eau Fraiche
- Hanae Mori (Didn't really like it and neither did people at school)
- Very Sexy
- Angel Men (I like it, not balsy enough to wear it often)
- Allure Homme sport
- Platinum Egoiste
- Boss Bottled
- Rochas Man
- Burberry London
- Burberry Brit
- Black XS
- La nuit de la homme
- Givenchy Pi
- Aqua Di Gio
So Walgreens is having a 20 % off sale (they have it every couple of months) and I want to get something nice, pleasant, and versatile for college etc. I also want to keep the total cost at around $50. So my top two choices were The one and John Varvatos (cheaper). Which one do I get? Other suggestions would also be great. Thanks guys.
thanks for replying. I've smelt it and I felt it wouldn't be appropriate for every occasion although it is a nice scent. Also it runs a little bit on the pricey side.
I have JV and like it very much. Go for it!
keepin' it musky
Have you tried Artisan by John Varvatos? I was surprised I liked this scent as much as I did. I think it would be very appropriate for high school and you would also have a unique scent that most of your classmates wouldn't wear.
the one has very poor longevity, so i recommend jv
JV better value for longevity, more innovative composition too.
Between those 2, get the JV, bro. The One is a nice scent, but the poor longevity is legendary.
Another vote for Varvatos. Some people have longevity issues with it as well, but almost everyone has issues with The One.
"We don't fail because we aim too high and miss, but because we aim too low and hit" - Les Brown
"When you're all alone, when no one is watching, and there's no one around to impress, that is who you are" - Greg Laurie
The one has a great sweet caramel and cinnamon dry down...yes horrible projection but such a great scent! Varvatos smells like a strong cough syrup in my option.
I can't recommend either one. I have no idea what other brands Walgreens carries, so I can't really give a meaningful alternative choice, unfortunately. I do agree with Hednic's Terre d'Hermes recommendation and would easily pick it over those two and many, many others you could find.

9) Javanese Patchouli (Zegna) - tie

I passed on The One as it is forgetable to me in a sea of its ilk.
My vote is for John Varvatos. Interesting composition. I love dates!
Between those two I guess I would choose John Varvatos. The One is a great scent but has terrible longevity and projection for me.
I like JV, but it looks like you definitely need some Dior Homme in your wardrobe.
Canadians: I would like to trade for a decant of The 3rd Man by Caron. PM me.
thanks for all of your suggestions. Sadly, JV ran out on the walgreens site so I went with DG (I'll be honest I was kind of rooting for it) but will look out for JV. Also I hear that JV is bargain basket scent so it really annoys me to buy something for a certain price when I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere. Finally, are there any other scents at a reasonable price that you guys think I should add to my collection before I go off to college. I'll most likely being going to college in Austin which is mostly warm (except for a few months) and will be taking (others will be finished or left at home) One Million, Eau Fraiche, Allure Homme sport, Boss Bottled, Rochas Man, Givenchy Pi, The One and ill re-buy very sexy. Thanks Again.

I prefer The One, but the fragrance doesn't last long enough to justify dropping money for it.
