Default How rare is "Jules" by Christian Dior?

It's still in production, although in reformulated version.
It seems to be a rare fragrance, is it true?

Haven't seen it at the local Sephora/Marionnaud; I think it's available only in France.

yes in France is available in a few stores, but in other countries I have NEVER seen it. That's why I asked about its rarity....

Sephora in Barcelona had it back in the summer when I visited. 80 Euros for 100ml if I remember rightly. Seemed much thinner than the vintage but still smelled very nice - nearly bought it but didn't like it enough to splash the cash..!

Never seen it in Italy or the US, only in Paris (several stores). I'm assuming it is still in production, but it is distributed only in France. As for the difference, the modern one still has plenty of aromatics and dirtyish clary sage. I have not smelled vintage, but I assume vintage could have more animalics in the base.

Neiman Marcus in San Francisco (Union Square) carries it. I sniffed it last time I was there.

guess the vintage was more spicy... an Amouage style precursor!

I agree. It's easy to find everywhere here and although it is a different bottle the fragrance is EXACTLY the same.

David, I am sorry, I disagree: it is "thinner" than it used to be. The civet dominant top notes are not that strong, as well as the florals. A good blend, indeed, but the original one was heavier. I would bet many would describe the original formulation as dated.

BTW, I had the chance of getting a free sample of a blend centered in civet made by Fueguia, a local niche perfume co. and layered it with Jules. It resembled closely to the original formulation, of which I have a remaining bottle.

Dior in the UK do not have it.

Here's someone else having a good whinge http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/news-...ns-scents.html
Aromatic and maddeningly elusive too, since Dior saw fit to stop selling Jules in Britain some time back in the 1990s, which means that to procure a bottle these days you have to travel to France (not cheap, obviously) or be prepared to engage in some furious bidding on eBay, where even part-used bottles of the stuff can now command about £60.

Sorry David, I have to agree with Pollux. Even in the heat of Barcelona the new formulation didn't pack much of a punch - I even returned to Sephora 2-3 hours after spraying some on to top-up the dosage!! I have a small 10ml bottle of the civet-heavy vintage and 3 dabs are enough to blare out at full volume for 6+ hours...!

I've sampled it from Neiman Marcus in San Francisco. Good stuff, but not sure it's really me. Definitely from another era.

If you live in Italy, you can still find the vintage formulation here and there at flea markets...Nver smelled the current.

I dont think either that Jules is so rare at all. Every now and then you can buy from eBay the vintage Jules for decent price. I bought my 60 mL vintage bottle for 40 euro. As well i guess whoever can order from Sephora France the new formulation (which is not as good as vintage).

The older stuff is much better. The last bottle I bought was the stuff in the Higher bottle in which the juice is much harder. Not bad, but I sold it. I doubt it's even that good anymore.

    Among other things.............

Like all the older ones the size and shape is the same, but the grandeur is gone. The intricate formulas of the classic fragrances can't withstand IFRA restrictions.

I think this might be one of the newer releases although not sure. Mine looks like this below (except mine is 100ml) and I bought it many years ago in Paris:

Yes, confirming, it's like the bottle I bought a couple of years ago in France. Still ok to my nose, but not vintage. And given that it is still around in France, more or less, it should cost little.

This one is high on my "to try list" but is incredibly hard to get where I'm located. Is the difference between vintage and current exaggerated or are there noticeable differences?

Badarun, this is the new one because it says Dior not Christian Dior on it. Thanks to Andre Moureau's guide.

The new one is plentiful here though.

Re: the difference, the posts above argue for vintage. I have smelled vintage only once from a mini. While vintage lasts more, I'm happy with the current formulation.
