As much as I hate to suggest something by Chanel I am forced to point out that there really is something incomperable about Egoiste (none of this platinum nonsense)

I agree with most of those mentioned above. I am also a fan of Chanel Coromandel, Sycomore, Bois des Iles, etc.

    L'IDGPHEE/L'IDGPHEF

Didn't know there was a female version lol. That's why i think LIDGE is commonly accepted as the acronymn. My picks from my limited collection and of course subjective to whether they work on your skin and not going into the debate 'oh no, that's rubbish, cause i think so' blah blah blah stuff lol

    Kourous
    YSL: L'homme
    YSL: La Nuit
    Rive Gauche
    Body Korous
    DHI
    Armani Code
    A* Men
    1 million
    Ble De Chanel
    Dafidoff Cool Water
    Boss Bottled

Personally, i have very few scents in my collection that i wouldn't own but those rank among the top tier in the 'limited' collection i have. Limited in the amount compared to some members here and not to 'normal' people who don't really buy much fragrances.

Again, i know some of them might get slated, for 'lack of class' etc, but they all have a time and a place or occassion they can be used on, and for me, they've become must owns. Boss Bottled would be my all day work scent if i was a standard office worked, while L'homme and La Nuit would be the trusted intimate, formal style date scents. 1 Million and A* Men for more informal dates

    For me they would be:
    1. Taste of Fragrance/Pure Malt
    2. A*Men
    3. Gucci pH II (or I if you can find it)
    4. LIDGE
    5. Narciso Rodriguez for Him
    6. Fahrenheit
    7. Burberry London
    8. Paul Smith Man
    9. Bang/Lalique White
    10. M7

+1 on the Terre d'Hermes, in either the Parfum or the Eau De Toilette.

I really don't think of either Guerlain or Caron as "designer" scents.

My necessities off the top of my head:

    Terre d'Hermes
    Voyage d'Hermes

Chanel Pour Monsieur or Pour Monsieur Concentree
    Chanel Sycomore
Carolina Herrera for Men - I'm surprised this one doesn't get much love around here
Commes des Garcons Odeur 71 - this is a stretch, but a guy needs to own at least one CdG scent and this one is a masterpiece in my opinion
    Dior Eau Sauvage

The ones I wouldn't want to be without are

    Chanel Egoiste
    Chanel Pour Monsieur
    Dior Homme
    Gucci Nobile
    Gucci Envy
    Thierry Mugler A*Men
    YSL Rive Gauche
    YSL M7

I'm not getting into the Guerlains because Guerlain is not a designer. Let's just say the list would get a lot longer if it were.

Good to see some other folks supporting Egoiste. This is the best Chanel masculine and one of the best non-niche masculines you can currently buy in my estimation. Better than anything currently being made by Guerlain for half the price.

I have something of a dislike for Chanel as a brand. This has a lot to do with the fantacism of some of its adherants (apparently the 'click' a closing Chanel lipstick makes is more sophisticated than any other click, true story) in particular a few I know IRL, and the silly amount of praise that gets heaped on what seem to be some fairly tedius fragrances. Bleu for example. Oh it's nice but at the price it'd want to be, and it's twenty years too late for me to care that someone else is jumping on the blue/aquatic bandwagon. Anyway obsessive hype and tunnel vision is enough to turn me off anything.

Even so I would be a fool if I didn't give Egoiste its props. Just a quick look at the notes is enough, and you can see that this really is something special.
