Default Thoughts on the new formulation of Fougere Royale

A sales person at Neiman Marcus suggested that I smell Fougere Royale, as I was obsessing over all the Creeds, and I must say, it was quite delightful. I did not spray it on my skin, but I will tomorrow

What are your thoughts on this fragrance? I am sure this new forumalation is extremely different from the vintage, but how good is it? What type of vibe does it give off?

I think it's a wonderful fresh spicy fougere with a lovely chamomile note running through the composition and it has a beautiful rosy floral heart.

It's a winner for me. Classic old school fougere.

I like it a lot, would be interesting to compare it to the original.

I have tried it several times in a shop spritz. Each time, it made almost no impression on me (despite several sprayings). That seems very odd to me. Whereas I have the vintage juice and it is marvelous, a real old-school fougere.

I would love to smell this. I don't think it's reached Yorkshire yet

It's cracking stuff, IMO, but I wouldn't advise a blind buy of anything with this kind of price tag. You can get a sample from First in Fragrance.

Thanks for that Any idea if there are any UK based businesses that supply samples of it?

Thank you, I didn't realise they did Houbigant. I haven't ordered from them for years.

Got a sample of it today, and wore it for the day. It is indeed quite nice.

I didn't like it. I wonder if the original had a common-or-garden variety sweetish amber base as well?

Incidentally, I note that Les Senteurs have dropped their prices for samples from £5 to £3.50, having put them up a year or so ago. No doubt that killed the trade.

I've never smelled the original, but I suspect the original had coumarin and oakmoss in the base, as per standard recipe. Tania Sanchez wrote that the current version doesn't smell like the original at all ("a joke").
