    Default Revamp My Collection

    Hello All-

Came across this site after researching scents, and started reading. After doing so, it came to my attention that I'm way outdated, and not properly equipped in the cologne department. I am somewhat new to this arena, so please take it easy on me.

Information about myself: 30 year old male, Engineer, who works in office and sometimes at job sites. Business casual dresser, however I do dress up for work if I have meetings/ lunches, family functions, dinner parties, nights out on the town, weddings, etc. New York area as well as New Jersey.

I am going to do the following- List what I have and will probably be tossing away. In return- list what I'd like to get and see what your inputs are.

    What I have:

    Hugo Boss
    Burberry Touch
    Burberry Brit
    Candies for Men
    DG Pour Homme- keep
    Curve for Men
    Polo Sport
    Versace Blue Jeans- keep
    Armani Black Code- keep
Acqua Di Gio - usually the go to, ladies around here love it
    JPG Le Male- 2nd place

Here's what I'd like to get:

    Dior Homme Intense
    La Nuit
    Bleu De Chanel
    Aventus
    New Haarlem
    Portrait of a Lady
    A Men
    Pure Malt
    Tobacco Vanille
    L' Instant (LIDGE)
    Burberry London
    Pure Havane
    Lacoste Stye in Play
    Egioste- Chanel

I greatly appreciate your input. I, usually, don't heavy spray. Maybe 2-3 tops. I'd just like to have a sophisticated, nice collection to be proud of. After reading the forum for awhile- I feel I've put together a decent list.

I'm an engineer in my thirties also... small world...

You have a nice list selected... best advice I could give would be to sample everything properly before buying. Don't blind buy...

A frag can have the best reviews going, and you still won't necessarily like it....

Sample, sample, sample, fall in love, then buy a full bottles.

Also I would add to your to test list:
    - Encre Noir or Sycomore
    - Green Irish Tweed
    - Pour Un Homme
    - Sel Marin
    - Mugler Cologne
    - Terre d'Hermes
Well, it's cheaper than therapy... edit: No it's not...

Thanks for the feedback so far..... appreciate it!

Also- I don't intend on Blind Buying anything. I have read to always get a sample or go to store and smell beforehand.

I would start by taking a sniff of these:
    La Nuit
    Bleu De Chanel
    Burberry London
Egioste- Chanel (Give Platinum Egoiste a try too, people don't give it any credit here but it's rather nice.)

    ---
I'd maybe add the following to your list as worth checking out:
    Givenchy Play Intense
    Chanel Sycamore
Versace pour Homme (I've had more compliments on this stuff from women than Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio)

Yes sir- I agree. What do you guys use as a Daily Driver? I'd like something that's refreshing yet different than what most people wear....

So basically, something fresh/versatile/safe, but different.

    Original Santal or Himalaya.

I would omit the AMen flankers and stick with the original. And New Haarlem is rather groce, too.
Nothing, a 30 year old engineer should wear, less so to work.

Try to add something not so sugary to your list. I would agree with Sycomore as an excellent choice.

Then, don't waste your money on Bond or Creed, except maybe Bois du Portugal and Royal Oud.
If you want to spend that kind of money rather get something nice from chanel exclusif line - like Sycomore - or Dior prive - like Eau Noir (instead if that groce New Haarlem) or something classy like Ambre Nuit, Granville etc. Etc.

Yeah- I was just gonna stick to A Men. Went window shopping this weekend, and found some really nice stuff. I'll report back with the ones that I found more interesting (to me at least.)

    And groce? or gross?

Also- what do you guys consider classy/ sophisticated?
