Default Thierry Mugler Les Parfums de Cuir (2012)

Thierry Mugler is launching a new limited edition collection Les Parfums de Cuir ("The Fragrances of Leather"), which offers new editions of Angel, Alien, Womanity and A*Men perfumes, coming out in October 2012. This collection celebrates the twentieth birthday of Thierry Mugler perfumes. For the occasion, four new interpretations of the famous fragrances enriched with natural extracts of leather are presented. This concept combines haute perfumery and the traditional craft of glove making and perfume craft.

The new fragrances are made by soaking the original compositions in natural leather for four weeks.

lmao! Yeah, I also thought the video was a bit convoluted hahaha, reality is they will probably just add a synthetic leather note.

Just got off the phone with a Thierry Mugler rep...

The leather strips they use in the process are from the hides that are handpicked from the livestock on the Mugler farm. That prevents some schmuck off the street from copying the formula if they wanted to produce counterfeit bottles.

Wow a real tainted crew here

That liquid the are pouring in is pure extract that is totally unwearable on skin. Just a teaspoon of that would produce about 1000 bottles of fragrance.

That does not sound boring. That sounds mouthwatering. His Pure Series is gaining real traction I think as more than a gimmick. I somehow think "Pure Cuir" will rank above TTOF and below Pure Havane on my Mugler favorites. I just hope the leather is cool, dry, and classy, instead of a hot, greasy mess.

Making leather, um, tea out of the fragrances? Not sure what to think of that. I'd actually be a lot more interested if they were adding leather notes to the fragrances!

That being said, I'll watch the reviews, and see how it goes. Womanity and Alien are potentially interesting here.

My review of all four Les Parfums de Cuir scents:

Womanity is my favourite of the four and Pure Cuir is probably one of my favourite of the 'Pure' editions, along with coffee and Le Goût du Parfum.

I'd say that Pure Cuir has a little bit more oomph than the Taste of Fragrance version but slightly less so than original. Don't get me wrong, it's strong, but just a touch softer than A*Men.

I believe that they went back to the companies they worked with for each original, so e.g. Mane for Womanity etc. It doesn't specify in the press release though, although it did in earlier material I saw.

Sniffed it 3 days ago-smells good, just A*Men with a leather note. It smells good enough, but if you don't need the leather note, then standard A*Men will suffice (IMHO). The leather is very nice, smooth, and pleasing-not at all the dirty type of leather fragrance (so if that's your leather, type, I cannot imagine this one pleasing you as much.) Combined with the sweetness of the original, it is immediately appealing (or off-putting, if you hate A*Men). It seems to also have similar strength to A*Men. There are so many leather perfumes out there, though. I was rather surprised it smelled very similar to the original, since some of its flankers can deviate quite a bit from it (which for some is a good thing.)

No doubt some will prefer this over the original, because of that nice, smooth leather note, but when this one runs it course, I don't think it shall be missed as much as some of the other "most wanted" flankers.

I can't see this toppling Tuscan Leather or Cuir Pleine Fleur as my favorite leathers.

Mugler should start churning out NEW fragrances instead of flankers.

Unfortunately Canadians can't buy through the website typically (and generally I think its due to Customs headaches etc, takes a bit of logistical work to fix that), however, the standard limited releases (PM, PH, TOF), have all got to the Bay in Canada prior to retailers anywhere else in the world (to my knowledge) typically.

More so to the original, the opening smells like A*men without the tar note, and a few minutes later the leather note appears and gives off this boozy, caramel like vibe, like Pure Malt. Can't tell you how the projection/longeity is yet as I haven't given it a full wearing but i think it should be very good.

    Will Do!

Availability: The SA told me that they only recieved 4 bottles and she doesn't know if they'll get any more. She said the other Bay stores in my city haven't recieved any at all. Apparently Canada was one of the first countries to recieve the fragrance and we were both puzzled why. Anyhow she said the Pure leather is a limited edition as far as she knows and hasn't received as much anticipation since Pure havane, Pure shot took awhile to sell. The others part of this collection are most likely to be permanent stays in the Mugler lineup. (I also got a Mugler sport bag as a thanks you )

Fragrance: Okay, from 2 days of testing here is my personal take: This starts off like the original A*men but without the tar note, it smells more rounded with the amped up patchouli note, a few minutes later the leather starts to come forward. It's not a leather as in TL but it's clearly distinguishable as leather so to say. I get a slight hint of coffee in the top, but you really have to dig to smell it. Soon enough the scent becomes this heavy, thick boozy fragrance that smells so well blended together, caramel mixed with the chocloate dominates and the coffee note plays a strong supporting role in the mid. It smells like a typical gourmand. The leather is much more pronounced and is clearly evident. It works amazingly with the caramel/ chocolate and the coffee. It smells thick and authentic, something really special. Near the end of this fragrance the leather becomes in your face but it's toned down with some of the other notes, the coffee sticks around as does the booziness that the caramel and chocolate gave off. Vanilla take control here and sort of relaxes the whole of the fragrance. All in all a wonderful compostion.

My 2 cents: My second favourite Mugler, Pure havane is still my favourite but it jumps ahead of Pure Malt. I did a side by side comparison with the original A*men just to see the differences/similarities and they are different fragrances and although they do have similarities, they each have their own unique personalities. They're like cousins so to say. Overall, a great release by Mugler after the apparent 'disappoinment' with Pure shot. They went back with what they do best, unique authentic gourmands with a twist. It's a different take on a leather and I like that. If you guys get a chance, please grab this as it is quite amazing. Just my take though and you have to test for yourself

All in all a wonderful compostion.
wow, you really got me now! This sounds absolutely amazing.

They didn't go through any trouble at all. Remember: they didn't make that video. They hired someone to make it, just as they'd hire someone to make a traditional commercial.
