    Default Musc Ravageur Reformulation

Hello everyone ! I received and for the first smelled Musc Ravageur and love it. The sample I received was from a 2010 bottle and was told the newer bottles have been reformulated. I'm not sure if its for the better or worse or if anyone had the inside track and info for me before I buy 50ml of this masterpiece.

That's what I was curious of. The seller I got it from said his 2010 version has more Clove then the newer tester he smelled at Barney's. This being my first time smelling it I wanted to make sure before I purchased a bottle I knew what I was looking for. I also noticed their might have been a price hike from some of the reviews stated prices.

I have heard that MR was re-formulated late 2012. It is supposed to have a much more toned down, clove opening, and the color of the juice is said to be different.

Fragrances (ALL fragrances) are known to change very slowly over time, even in unopened bottles. There was interesting article written by either Chandler Burr or Luca Turin about how new bottles from Guerlain smelled very different than those that had been on the shelf for a while.

I think it's normal that a bottle from 2010 smells a *little different than a bottle from 2013. I've been on these boards for a few years now and have heard people speak of this on numerous occasions.

Although you could be right, I highly doubt Frederic Malle would reformulate one of his best sellers.

I agree. I expect that the price would raise first from this house or the fragrance would be discontinued. Their philosophy of freeing the perfumer to use whatever ingredients they want would be compromised if reformulated.

Hmm, I just smelled it about two weeks back (from the new boxes that it comes in), and that was actually the first thing I wondered when I sprayed it on, as the clove didn't seem to be nearly as punchy as I remembered it being. I thought maybe that I just didn't remember it right (which is still a possibility), but now I'm not as sure...

Unless it contains ingredients or percentages of ingredients that don't conform to the set of new EU regulations.

Not sure how many current frags are going to be able to stand up to those without the need for reformulation.

Hard to say, but it's hard not to imagine that many frags will require some tweaking.

I'm always continually scratching my head at the new regulations they keep coming up with. It's just getting absurd.
