Vanille Absolu by La Maison de La Vanille
Thread: Your favorite vanilla fragrance?
I love vanilla and I think my next purchase is gonna be a vanilla based fragrance. Are there vanilla lovers out there? Any recommendations?
Vanille Absolu by La Maison de La Vanille
Vanilla can be very different from fragrance to fragrance.
Personally, I love the thick rich vanilla that smells like a vanilla candle or vanilla icing on vanilla cupcakes made with vanilla beans. I dislike vanilla that is thin and watered down like imitation vanilla extract.
There is also the question of what the vanilla is layered with. Some people like herbs or woods with their vanilla as a more complex scent. Personally, I like vanilla as the main scent.
Caron pour un homme remains the reference classic: lavender and vanilla in perfect harmony.
Then there are the classic vanillic orientals, usually marketed to women but great for men as well, from Shalimar to the niche, but great, Ormonde Jayne Tolu.
It's like a plasticky vanilla vibe in the opening, but then when it dries down it is just pure vanilla, not an overly sweet vanilla, but sort of a darker take of vanilla. Good longevity and projection as well. $100 for 100mL can't be beat.
Vanille - Les Nombres d'Or Eau de Parfum by Mona di Orio
Is also a very good vanilla. The thing is the price used to be $170 for 100mL, the price jumped to $230 for 100mL now. This makes me wonder if the fragrance is really worth the price. Still it's a good boozy orange/vanilla fragrance.
Vanille Absolument by L'Artisan
Dior Addict. Works well on a man.
Vanilla is not my favourite note but I do enjoy Mona di Orio Vanille very much. It's semi-sweet which is nice, and the supporting notes help balance it perfectly.
The Mona di Orio is nice if you have that kind of money to spend. Sample first!
Tom Ford Noir is a peppery vanilla.
Bulgari Black is vanilla with leather and rubber - think vanilla + auto parts shop
Parfum d'Nicolai Vanille Tonka is vanilla with incense, and lovely
Lush's Vanillary is very basic jasmine/vanilla. Smells great and cheap.
Shalimar is the classic vanilla with citrus and leather.
for fans of vanilla that are sick of the same overbearing vanilla notes i urge you to try a sample of nasomattos absinthe....not quite tonka bean, not quite vanilla, no benzoin...
14 sprays of DRAKKAR NOIR should do it
My favorite vanilla fragrance is Spiriteuse Double Vanille.
My current top ten:
1. Spice and Wood
2. Epic Man
3. Tonka Imperiale
4. Noir de Noir
5. Bois d'Argent
6. Musc Ravageur
7. Apple Brandy
8. Dior Homme Intense
9. Aoud 1
+1 on Mona di Orio's Vanille. It's hands down the best vanilla fragrance out there. I don't get the fuss about the price - it's pretty reasonably priced for a 100ml bottle of a niche scent, especially compared to the Malles and the Lutens bell jars and the Guerlain exclusives. Besides, Min and Parfum1 as often as not have some coupon or other, and you can get up to 25% off.
I own Spiriteuse Double Vanille as well, but I find myself reserving it for special occasions. It's achingly elegant and refined, and feels so luxurious that I feel it works better when I scrub up well. I liked it enough to get a FB, but I just LOVE it the way I love Mona di Orio's Vanille.
Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille (floral/rose vanilla)
Molinard Vanille (pure vanilla)
Guerlain Jicky, Guerlain Mouchoir de Monsieur) and Caron Pour Un Homme (both vanilla with lavender)
Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar (gourmand vanilla)
"No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this." Desert Rose by Sting and Cheb Mami, Album 1999.
If I am in the mood for vanilla I wear Eau Duelle by Diptyque.
Worth a try would be Felanilla by Parfumerie Générale. If you like the combination of iris and vanilla. To me it's the simplified version of Iris Ganache by Guerlain.
Di Orio's Vanilla could be my favorite, if the smokey vetiver note wasn't that prominent on my skin.
Another for Les Nombres d'Or Vanille by Mona di Orio.
Current Top Favorites:
1) Portrait of a Lady (EdP Frédéric Malle)
2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie
6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)
maybe L`Instant de Guerlain PH Extreme, Dior Homme Intense, T.Ford Tobacco Vanille...

I'm not a vanilla scent fan, but there are some good scents with vanilla in them to sweeten the scent a bit or to blend it with other ingredients.... my favourite here would have to be Aventus. People bang on about pineapple, apple and bergamot and other 'top' notes, but once this starts to dry down, the most prominent notes in it are patchouli/oakmoss and vanilla. The vanilla is what gives this scent its sweetness IMHO and for me the vanilla is just right - not too much, not too little.
If all you want is vanilla however, this scent is not for you.
Atelier Vanille Insensee (referring to insane rather than incense btw) is a fresh, light take on vanilla, in the same territory as Diptyque Eau Duelle. It is a highly concentrated "cologne" with great tenacity and good sillage. It's perfect for warmer weather, never gets cloying.
Top notes are coriander, lime and citron; middle notes are vetiver, jasmine and oak moss; base notes are vanille, oak and amber.
I enjoy the Vanilla note in Jaipur Homme:
"I love fragrances because they provide a sheer endless variety: there is a scent for every occasion, mood or feeling. Standing before my collection in the morning matching a perfume to my needs is one of the most enjoyable things in my day". I don't want to miss that

van cleef & arpels orchidee vanille
Classics: Shalimar, Jicky
Moderns: Bulgari Black, EAU DES BAUX
Cheapies: Coty Raw Vanilla, Body Shop White Musk for Men
Among others, my personal vanilla-based favorites are: Caron pour un Homme, Yves Rocher Secret d'Essences Vanille Noire, Givenchy Pi, DHI.
Dior's Hypnotic Poison would probably top that list for me. Also, I really enjoy the milky vanilla base note in Diesel Zero Plus Masculine provided by the combination of vanilla and heliotrope that join the spicy cinnamon powder top notes.
Eau des Baux if you like incense with your vanilla.
Tobacco Vanille if you like tobacco with your vanilla.
A really sweet, inexpensive one I did not see mentioned yet:
WANTED (full or partial bottles)
Divine eau Divine (refillable)
Only vanilla based frags i know i like are Baldessarini Strictly Private, Rochas Man and Dior Homme Intense.
Update. I got today, 17th Jan. a blind-buy- bottle of Rochas Lui. It's really great. It has a vanilla base mixed with patchouli.

"Le parfum est la musique du corps"
I can wholeheartedly echo the love for the vanilla note in Bulgari Black, especially in the drydown - it's just so comforting and warm and enveloping.
If you like new indie niche fragrance, check out "Memoirs of a Trespasser" by Imaginary Authors - it's a really boozy vanilla overtop a resinous, woody base - smooth and distinctly vanilla.
SS Farmacia di Annunziata Vaniglia di Madagascar ( has lovely light citus.woody notes so not a cupcake vanilla)
Montale Vanille Absolu (pure ethyl vanillin - cotton candy)
I think the original question is perhaps too broad.
To me, vanilla has three distinct sets of scents:
1. The more or less "pure" vanilla scents. Spiriteuse Double Vanille is the emperor of this group for me, and I spray it on myself often at night because I love it so much. Others I enjoy are Creed's Sublime Vanille and Diptyque's Eau Duelle.
2. The "modified" vanilla scents. These use vanilla as a prominent note, but mix it with something else equally or nearly as prominent. Tobacco Vanille comes to mind, as does Le Male. Tobacco Vanille is my favorite here.
3. The vanilla "based" scents. These have vanilla somewhere in the pyramid to give a scent depth, but many people wouldn't say they're really vanilla. This category is huge, but I don't think that's what the op is looking for. But if I had to throw one in here, my favorite would be Dior Homme, which is vanilla with Iris and cocoa.
Of course, categories two and three wash over into each other.
Current Top Five:
1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
5. Creed Original Vetiver
Eau Duelle by Diptyque gets my vote, for it includes some cinnamon and juniper to makes things more exciting.

Mona di Orio Vanille
Is there no love for Dzing! anymore? This is my favorite vanilla based scent. It is more prominent in the base of course.
I am in agreement with hedonist about Patchouli 24 as well. A fantastic phenolic, earthy, dry vanilla.
Yes, Jaipur Homme has a wonderous vanilla dry down.
Spiriteuse Double Vanille is the best one I've smelled.
This is a straight up woman's fragrance to my nose.
Eau des Baux
