Default SOTD Tuesday 15th January 2013

    Good morning fragrant-smelling friends!

We have none of the widely predicted snow
here, just a cold, dark start to the day.

I have just rushed to get ready so as to
take my youngest son into work but now I can
think about a SOTD. I think I shall go with
Imperial Opoponax by Les Nereides. This is a
warm, comforting, smooth delight - maybe a bit
on the male side for my usual taste but very retro and
wearable by a woman. It is like a warm duvet of incense,
citrus, sandalwood and benzoin enveloping the wearer with it's
    enticing, original smell.

    Good morning kewart & everyone!

A mixture of sunshine & cloud here today, cold but dry.

l'm off to work in a bit, wearing original Ghost; rosy, incensy loveliness.

    Have a great day, all.

Good morning all !. Quite relieved to get to work unscathed today. Snow partially melted and froze overnight, so the journey was a treacherous obstacle course with the constant threat of going arse over elbow at any time. A healthy dose of caffeine has since worked it's magic and tranquility is now restored

    Creed Himalaya today.

I started off my day with a much-needed hard run in Bulgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Rouge, and now, after a long soak and a quick shower, I'm in vintage Gucci No3 for the morning. Y'all have a great day!

Sampling Tilleul D'Orsay today. Hm. Well. It's tilleul. Starting fresh and bloomy as if it was June, plain tilleul, getting a bit more creamy in the drydown and I can smell the honey that is listed. Still tilleul. Nicely done, but a bit too mono for me.

    Good afternoon!

Chergui today. An early meeting then running around buying floors, tools, and other necessities.

Where is my sister -in- leau Quarry! Oh, there she is. OK dear Quarry. You asked about the house. Well, the new house is of no interest actually, but it is going to be a good design challenge. Our old one was the one that you would have been interested in. You see we are going from a huge city flat built about 1890 to a small house built in the 1970's.

The old apartment is a listed building. It has giant proportions. It's built of red sandstone. It has 14 foot high ceilings with some of the original cornicing and plaster ceiling light roses. The doors are about 8 feet I think. The front storm door is bigger, about twelve feet. The windows are sash and case, some with wood panelled shutters. The floors are all stripped, sanded and varnished. The floorboards are very wide and they have a beautiful colour to them, as have the big deep skirtings and the panelled doors and window frames. We did a lot of work to it and a lot of love went into it over many many years. I'm sure that you would have liked that house. The new one by contrast is of no actual interest. But it was time for a change. It's exciting. I had to live elsewhere for a wee while then back home then we had to make a temporary move after we sold but before we bought. So I have had several moves in two years. It doesn't suit me. I get attached to houses. I think that you do get attached to them when you do a lot of the work yourselves.

All of our stuff is HUGE. It's going to be like trying to stuff an elephants ass into a shoe box. Actually we will need to change a lot of things, but as I said, the design challenge is great! A cool contemporary interior with the best (and smallest) of our older or period stuff to mix things up? What says you?

Take Care everyone. Be good to each other.

Well, my time as a juror is over. The victim/witness did not show up to testify and the defendant pleaded to a lesser charge so my services were not needed after all. I'm wearing Cuir de Lancome today because I thought it would be suitable for court.

Madares de Oriente by Myurgia (from a sample - thanks jujy54)

A vintage 'sandalwood' that recalls old bits of Vol de Nuit, Miss Dior (the vintage of course, not that new crap) and other vintage orientals. They just don't make 'em like this anymore, people.

How I wish you were a sis-in-law as well as sis-in-leau.

Old or new, house talk is interesting. The home you exited sounds pretty fantastic. Scale is a really tricky thing, isn't it? The house Mr. Q and I lived in and completely remodeled before inheriting the schoolhouse was small. I still look forward to hearing about how you go about making your new home represent you. I bet you'll treasure showcasing your favorite things that fit. You have a new color palette in mind, too, I'm sure. What tiring fun you and Mr. F will have.

I am starting a new book ('The Magicians' by Lev Grossman) and I have been waiting all day to come home and curl up in bed with it. So I tried to find the most 'magical' scent in my sample/decant pile and decided on this one:

La Treizième Heure XIII by Cartier

Those mate/bitch/leather notes just catches my breath, every time I wear this. I always got a headache from Bulgari Black and Patchouli 24 but this one is much more wide open and well...still manages to be dark, mysterious and mythic. Off to my book!!
