Default Rate Bond no. 9 Fragrances

I'm going to give my personal rating on these Bond no 9 fragrances (based on what I tried).

My standards: 1-5, compared to other niche fragrances. Judged on projection, longevity, originality, versatility and value for what you pay in addition to the overall scent.

    Hamptons - 2/5
    Chinatown - 3/5
    Cooper Square - 3/5
    Bleecker Street 3.5/5
    Little Italy - 1/5
    Coney Island - 2/5
    Wall Street - 3.5/5
    New Haarlem - 5/5
    Chez Bond - 3/5
    Riverside Drive - 2.5/5

The main factor in my rating system that seems to be driving it down is value for the overall scent.

How would you rate fragrances from the Bond house. Not just the ones I listed, but all of the ones you tried.

    Hamptons - 1/5
    Chinatown - 3/5
    Cooper Square - 1/5
    Bleecker Street 2/5
    Little Italy - 1/5
    Coney Island - 4/5
    Wall Street - 1/5
    New Haarlem - 3/5
    Chez Bond - 2/5
    Riverside Drive - 2/5

I'm rating these as 1 being offensive, 2 being completely boring, 3 being very average, and 4 being pretty good. There are no Bond fragrances I feel that deserve anything close to a 5.

All I've tried - about a 1 with Riverside Drive 1.5 and that's being generous.

Wha??? That's one of my favorites from their lineup!

I'd also give Chinatown a 5/5, even for a man. (I wear it fairly frequently.)

    Never tired Bond until today...

    New Haarlem 2/5

Did not work at all on my skin. Too much syrup / maple smell and a synthetic note.
I was surprised as I like gourmands (A-men, Rochas Man).
Id like to try other Bonds but they are not available in my city.
I'll have to order some samples.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one! I'm surprised it hasn't gathered more popularity yet - maybe it will soon.

I also love Chinatown - I think it would be PERFECT on a woman (5/5). I just dont quite have the guts to try to pull this off (yet) in public. Well made fragrance though. Same with Astor Place (5/5), but too feminine for me to try to wear.

Boy, do I dislike Bond No. 9. I pulled out my samples to rate these fragrances and I was reminded just how underwhelming their fragrances are (with the exception of Chinatown). Anyway, here we go!

    Hamptons - 1/5
    Chinatown - 5/5
    Cooper Square - 2/5
    Bleecker Street - 1/5
    Little Italy - 1/5
Coney Island - 2/5 (just noticed that same metallic note featured in Sécrétions Magnifiques)
Wall Street - 3/5 (and spilled this all over myself...good news is, it's better than I remembered!)
    New Haarlem - 2/5
    Chez Bond - 1/5
    Riverside Drive - 3/5
    New York Oud - 3/5

I only have some recent experience with two fragrances:

Cooper Square - 2/5 (I own it and have worn it a few times, can't force myself to like it though. It seems like something sharp is attacking my nostrils; trying to sell it off at the moment.)
New Haarlem - 3/5 (I found the maple syrup just overwhelming)

Very hit or miss house with more misses than hits. The best ones from the house, what I'd consider fives, are not listed here, West Side, Silver Factory, Saks For Him, and NY Amber.

I've said it before...I really wanted to like Bond fragrances -they have MONSTER longevity and projection. I tried 10 different ones, and there was always an undertone of some weird chemical...melted plastic and artificial grape? that ruined most of them. The exception is NY Amber which I LOVE and own a full bottle of. It still has that weird smell, but it is hidden mostly by the amber. The only one I didn't smell that chemical with was Wall St., but that just smelled like the underside of my lawn mower so...

You're describing "that Bond smell" that seems to exist in 95% of their juices. It is that odd fruit/musk/floral combination you describe that tends to royally suck.

I'd give Brooklyn a 5/5 even though I wouldn't wear it. The scent isn't for me, but it is outstanding.

I think it's funny when people try to get scientific with their ratings systems. You can't rate art that way. It just doesn't work.

...I wonder how much bang for buck one gets from a Picasso. I'd give that guy a 3/5.

It's funny, people either smell the undertone or they don't. I saw a long thread awhile back where half the people said they smelled that chemical fruit smell, and the rest said they couldn't smell it at all. It is a shame, b/c I like the projection and longevity, and enjoyed some of the basic ideas of the fragrances (minus the chemical)

Oh how everyone's noses are different. Maybe people detect the "base" of Bond and don't mind it or actually like it. I hate powder and if there's even a hint of it the frag is ruined for me, but yet there are many that don't detect powder in certain frags that I do, or they don't mind it or even like it. Who knows.

I, personally, love Bond no 9 and even though it's extremely unpopular to like it, and extremely popular to bash it, so be it.

    New Haarlem - 5/5
    Chez Bond - 3/5
    Riverside Drive - 3.5/5

I could rank a lot of others too...but I won't...for now. Fact of the matter is that it's just popular to hate Bond no 9, I think that quite a few people feel like they have to hate them or they feel embarrassed to admit that they might like them. I always hear that Chez Bond is a rip off of GIT, yet GIT will get a 5/5 and Chez Bond will get a 1/5...doesn't make sense if they smell the same...and Chez Bond even lasts about 10 times longer. If you genuinely don't like them...good for you, there's more for those of us who do...if you've just jumped on the "hate Bond" bandwagon because you think it'll make you more popular...I don't know what to say.

I don't hate the house in general...Like I said one of my all time favorite fragrances is New York Amber, I absolutely love it. I tried to like many of the others as well, Like Riverside Drive, Bleeker St. , Central Park, and Manhattan, I wanted to like all of them but kept smelling that chemical. Somehow the New York Amber covers it up or it isn't as strong. There are those who like to bash Bn9 b/c they say it ripped off other famous scents, but that is mute...many perfumers build on other famous fragrances.

    From those I have tried:

High Line - 2/5 (too feminine)
New Harlem - 4/5 (nice, but overpriced)
Wallstreet - 3/5 (prefer SJ Unforgivable to this.. better dry down. -- WS smells like "wet dog" in dry down)
Andy Warhol Montauk 2/5 (love the top blueberry note, after that, it's a bore)
    Chinatown - 2/5 (too feminine)
    Westside - 2/5 (too feminine)
    My Ultimate Top 5:

    Fahrenheit (1988)
    Paul Smith Man (2009)
    Burberry London (2006)
    Prada Amber pour Homme (2006)
    Arpege pour Homme (2005)
