Default L'Heure Bleue 2012 edition and reformulation ??

I woke up not so long ago and clicked onto Perfumeshrine to discover this .
The bottle is certainly out of this world gorgeous * pant pant pant * - 490 ml of extrait housed in the midnight blue Baccarat crystal quadrilobe flacon. Makes me want to sell my soul for it !.
However, there is also another reformulation of L'heure Bleue by Thierry Wasser. I wonder what it will be like ??!
This is the link for the article on Perfumeshrine. http://www.perfumeshrine.com/

The bottle looks gorgeous, but count me in as skeptical. Guerlain has been hit hard by IFRA, and the focus on the bottle after they had so unceremoniously reformulated HB right before the 100th birthday suggests that the priorities are all wrong.

Perfumeshrine appears positive, though it's not clear from the review if she has smelled it or not. HB was based on heliotropin and eugenol, and they are now restricted, so we shall see what Wasser manages to do. Or perhaps not, the price probably will probably make it unattainable.

The 'white musk * scares me , Cacio !
L'heure Bleue, even after its recent reformulations still was an absolute beauty but after reading the notes mentioned by Helg / Elena... well , it makes me sad.
I mean, I think Wasser will try and keep close to the character of L'Heure Bleure but as you said, eugenol and heliotropin..... what is L'Heure Bleue going to be minus the needed amounts in it.
    Modernised ???
That is another scary word - modernised. Modernised + white musk equals something different than L'Heure Bleue.

L'Heure Bleue Extrait was reformulated as per end of 2010 (batch code), when Guerlain kindly exchanged my bottle for Vol de Nuit. I was devastated - it was so bland and dull IMO. The EdP I smelled this April chez Guerlain Maison in Paris was sharper and somewhat more synthetic. L'Heure Bleue is history and I could not care less for yet another fancy bottle issued big style. Get the vintage EdTs that are left on the market (anything else hardly ever shows up these days), it's all by far superior than anything issued today under its name.

Like I said - I must sell my soul or find a Sugar Daddy !

I do adore the Guerlain Baccarat blue bottles starting with the vintage Coque d'Or flacons .

Cacio - very cunning strategy employed by Guerlain to unveil the reformulation at this time of the Centenary Year of L'Heure Bleue ! Push the new formulation when perhaps sales will be greatest thus forcing it upon us all and acceptance of it. Oh cynical moi !

The bottle is very nice but when you take a second look I was surprised just how phallic it appears to be. Is Mr Wasser is trying to tell us something?

    LOL! Mimi, great post.

    Yes, it IS phallic.

It is nevertheless a lovely bottle and I am sure that I can't afford it.

Please let us know if L'Heure Bleue is changed. I liked Shalimar Initial by Thierry Wasser, so this might be a flanker? Like Shalimar Eau Legere?

Yes every perfume board has said about the penis head. Is it to distract us from the juice???

For me L'Heure Bleu was always about the heliotrope, if they have lost it, oh dear. I have a small about say 7mls parfum from the 80s and my edp is from the 90s. I shall treasure both even more now.

I will never look at the quadrilobe bottle in the same way again ! *LOL*

There was some further comments at Perfumeshrine that this could be a separate version from the original - a Thierry Wasser version whilst the current bottle remains the same in formula as before.
It's a bit confusing - nobody has really clarified this . I hope the limited edition edition is just another version of L'Heure Bleue and will not replace the usual formula.
However, if I were to spend thousands of clams on a bottle of L'Heure Bleue extrait in an extra special bottle , I am sorry Mr. Wasser, but I would want the usual formula.

so is this THE reformulation due to EFRA regulations on heliotropin and eugenol? Or is that just another reformulation? Which version is safe to buy?

Exactly. Until that's confirmed (and whether or not they're telling the truth will be debatable), it's just another expensive flacon that relies on the bottle porn fetish of the bottle collectors, Guerlain devotees, rich and gullible.

I better get a few bottles before the reformulation sets in, when does the reformulation start production?

    Beauxbatons:

the reformulation started sometimes around 2010. So it's already late. Perhaps there's still some old juice around, but it's hard to distinguish.

Distinguish by batch codes (use online batch code readers) and color! The new reformulated L'Heure Bleue Extrait is now a pale yellow.

The bottle was beautiful right up until I made a connection, and then what was seen could not be unseen.

I can't say L'Heure looks particularly virile in this state, though...

Another reformulation of LHB? Fortunately, Guerlain already broke my heart in 2010, so this one holds no appeal.

I don't have any vintage and probably won't at this late date. Is it even worth spending the money on the new stuff? If yes, which is best? The EDT, the EDP, the extrait? Remember I, sadly, have never known the vintage in any form.

    Welcome!

I've smelled the new edp in store. It's pretty, in a floral spicy way, but it doesn't have the magic of the vintage. It is still better than most mainstream, but, again, whether it's worth depends on your tastes (having smelled vintage, it is not for me). Hard to describe, HB created a dreamy atmosphere, serene, somewhat melancholic, almost edible but not quite, which is simply lost in the new version.

You can often find testers at upscale dept stores like Neimans or Saks, so if you happen nearby, you can check. I have not smelled the other new formulations - usually, with Guerlain, the parfum is richer but costs vastly more. Since the restricted ingredients cannot go into the parfum either, it's not clear whether it is the case here anyway.

HB tends to be expensive on ebay, but occasionally half bottles or so can be found for reasonable prices. And occasionally it can also be found in antique or vintage stores - keep an eye. Last year, for instance, I found 200ml edc in a Boston antique store for $85.

Beware, though, things like Apres L'Ondee and Heure Bleue are very different from modern perfumes, and to many people they smell old, perfumey, powdery - more associated with their (elegant) grandmothers.

Cacio, thanks for the quick reply and the straight forward advice. I can understand pretty, floral, spicy. I have been completely mystified by all the descriptions out there. You know, when people only write about perfume like it is a memory or a feeling or food. I like the idea of perfume bringing all those memories but it doesn't really help me decide if I should spend the money. So, I'm going to try it, the new EDP and hope to be enchanted. Since I will never get to know the melancholic beauty of the vintage unless there are some major breakthroughs in the perfume making industry, I will not have anything to judge it against. Perhaps that is just as well since I would just long for what I can't have. Again, thanks for the help.

    - - - Updated - - -

My first bottle of L'Heure Bleue came today. It is the new EDP. I opened it right there in the car and sprayed it on. I love it! Good thing too as the spray bottle really blasted out a lot with one spray. Me, my coat, the car, my purse, everything in a fairly large radius got covered in it. I'm sure the people at the grocery store had no doubt what I was wearing. On the other hand no one ran from me complaining about the smell and that store was crowded. So, a good scent test out there on the unsuspecting public. I can't believe I've never tried this before now. I guess I was hesitant because of all those "old lady perfume" comments. This isn't "cheap" or "old lady" or "fruit salad modern" or anything but great. I have to find a bottle of extrait. I've nearly hyperventilated smelling my own arm over and over again.
