Default Best Profumum Roma fragrance for men?

Hi there, I recently tried a sample of 'Arso' by PR and think it's wonderful (and wonderfully expensive). Two questions:

    1) Which do you think is the best Profumum Roma scent for a man, and
    2) Which fragrance smells closest to that cedar/resinous/charred wood smell epitomised by 'Arso'?

Arso is great, especially for colder weather. I am also a big fan of Ichnusa, a fig and myrtle based scent.

Closest to Arso that I have experienced is Serge Lutens Filles en Aiguilles, but I have read recent posts indicating that Slumberhouse Norne may also be quite similar.

I like Arso the most , it is on my wish list but I it is so expensive :-(
I don't find any similarities to Filles en Aiguilles or Norne. It is unique scent, I am unaware of anything smelling like Arso :-(

Funnily, I only heard about Slumberhouse Norne this evening and looked them up. It's not a fragrance I can buy in the UK.

Arso smells like pencil shavings from those wall- or desk-mounted pencil sharpeners from my childhood, but I still love it!

    1) Ambra Aurea.
    2) Possibly Lonestar Memories.

    1) Arso, Fumidus, Thundra, and Victrix are the best in the line for men, IMHO.
    2) I'm a huge fan of both Fille et Aiguilles and Norne, and if you like Arso, you'd probably also like these two. Another one to check out is Black Tourmaline. Arso is expensive, but I've never regretted having it. It's a great fragrance is this genre.

    Has anyone tried Fiori d'Ambra?

I'm wondering if it's suitable for a man.

Yes, l've tried it. IMO a man could easily wear it, but Ambra Aurea is more on the masculine side, being less powdery & more of a "raw", resinous amber.

You might want to try their Olibanum. I think it is similar to Fille an Aiguilles without the pine note.

Good suggestion. It's very close to Olivier Durbano's Rock Crystal, though, so you might want to seek out a sample of both before purchasing a full bottle of either.

I've only tried Thundra and Olibanum and I really like Thundra but Olibanum is a weird one. It smells like a hotel room where they used some great neroli room spray to try and cover up the cigarette smoke smell. When I put it on my wife said I smelled like a Las Vegas casino, and sure enough, the very next day we went to Las Vegas and we were in the Hard Rock hotel casino and we walked through one part and both looked at each other and said "There's the smell, smells like Olibanum". Yeah, not a fan of the cigarette smoke smell. I think it could be great if it had more of a smokiness to it, not a smokingness to it. I don't want to smell like a Las Vegas casino in the slightest.

I always like Arso. I appreciate Fumidus more and more as time goes on (but I'm suspicious my sample is degrading....it smells like straight up vetiver to me lately.

Le Message Oublie by L'Antichambre smells in the same vein as Arso... and it is a heck of a lot better smelling, IMO.

As to the best Profumum? I have yet to find one that stands out. I am obviously not a fan of the house so far... Love their bottles though...

    1) Arso
    2) I initially thought about a mash-up between Fille En Aiguilles and Black Torumaline but overall Arso is less balmy, less sweet and as much as I love the Lutens and the Durbano, this one is much more wearable.

Arso is my favorite from Profumum. Olibanum, Ambre Aurea, Patchouly, are all very good too. Fumidus is interesting and compelling, but not sure I would describe it as good. Aqua di Sale, Thundra are both good depending upon the batch you get. All Profumum scents seem to have batch variations and scent evolution and change in fragrance oils and their smell over time due to the high use of natural oil ingredients which have considerable variability from batch to batch and as they age. I had two bottles of Thundra for instance that smelled like two different scents entirely. My Ambre Aurea went from warmth incarnate to a seaweed ambergris smell after a year or so. It just happens. Arso has stayed very reliably excellent. If anything its boldness has been dampened a bit with time, but it could be that my tolerance for this kind of strong scent has improved too.

Arso has similarities to these other fragrances: Bois d' Ascese by Naomi Goodsir - darker tar than Arso, CChristian V - more incense, less woods than Arso, Black Tourmaline - more incense better development.

I'm going to have to try Fumidis after these recommendations. I like Goodsir's Boid d'Ascese but find Arso more wearable.
