Default Reverse Holy Grail, a Creed scrubber!

    Royal English Leather
I sampled this one today. After only a half hour I had enough. I never imagined that Creed would have such a bad scent.

GASP! You must have a bad sample... There can really be no other explaination.

Actually, this is my favorite leather fragrance. Only thing I usually hear is some people say is can smell like a urinal cake. I disagree, but I can almost detect it... just a little bit... But it is under all that wonderful leathery smell...

Everyone's taste is different. The first 10 minutes or so is a bit challenging to me, but after that, it is one of my favorite leather fragrances.

I like leather. I have Tuscan Leather and consider it one of my top scents. This one had a weird sweet chemical smell with a hint of leather. Very bizarre.

Great fragrance. Creed made a good copy of Knize 10.

A buttery smooth leather. I think it's comforting.

    Creeds are like fine wine.
Buy a big bottle and let it mature for some years.

This scent, older than Knize Ten, is a very nice slightly sweetish mature leather fragrance.

Something Im very interested in trying. Sorry to hear you didnt like it. Just out of curiosity, have you ever tried Knize Ten? If so, what are your thoughts on it, as its one of my favorites?

Gasp indeed! REL is my favorite Creed fragrance.

That "weird sweet chemical smell with a hint of leather" is the way classic leather fragrances have smelled for 100+ years. Knize Ten, Dana English Leather, Caswell-Massey Persian Leather and Serge Lutens Cuir Mauresque (among others) share this ambery-woody sweet character.

You may not like it, but it isn't "such a bad scent"!

Great top notes. The fragrance bores me. Most of it smells like the pre-composed woody amber fixatives in the drydown of hundreds of others.

It's a hair more interesting than most Creeds, though.

Sorry, REL cannot be described as a bad scent. It may not be liked by some, but it certainly is not bad in itself. I sampled it last year but did not buy as it was only available in flacons. I thought it was a beautiful leather frag. The "buttery leather" description is spot-on, and i prefer it much more than Knize 10 (which i now realize is a bit too challenging for me, but full of quality).

    Agree 100%
Then again, as dougczar said, you might have gotten a bad sample.

I did not get on with this one either when I sampled the scent, it was really pungent and smelled like womens hand cream.

I do not dislike REL, however the only Creed that I ever considered scrubbing off (so far) was Royal Water.

I've only sampled it once and I haven't passed final judgement yet. My initial impression was that it was a good scent but not for me. I'll give it another go at some point though.

I'm convinced I got a bad sample now. The scent that everyone is describing is nothing like what I experienced.

It is not older than Knize. The 1781 date is fake. Actually REL is a copy of L'Origan with a leather note added. Whether one likes it or not it is not a bad perfume, excellent quality and construction.

It's a urinal mint combined with leather. Not for me, thank you.

Gotta agree...URINAL CAKE... There is a Montale frag...I forget which, that also smelled like a urinal cake. There was a thread here 4 or 5 months ago that explained what that strange smell was, but I forget what chemical it is.

Leather Fragrances seem to be for the most part, something that simply tries to be a leather fragrance, and usually fails miserably. I'm not sure why that is...

I'm trying to do something about that...

Except for Thierry Mugler. They soak their fragrance in leather for 30 days, so theirs is the real deal.

DougCzar, Which Thierry Mugler frag did you have in mind ?

    - - - Updated - - -

A Friend sent me a sample of Knize Ten, and told me it was a Leather Fragrance. I said WHAT?
This friend had asked me to help him make a reconstitution of his favorite Leather, Kolnisch Juchten, and we were sniffing others.

But I came to understand that so many "Leather" frags were just posers in the idea of Leather, unfortunately.

This was the first Creed I smelled that made me recoil. I hated it, and detest only Royal Delight more.

But keep in mind I don't much like leather scents, and was hoping against hope this one would be different.
