    Default Rive Gauche ruined?

With all the recent talk of how good Rive Gauche is, just how different are the tin can and glass bottle variations? I've almost finished my decant and will have a buy a bottle sooner or later, however it lies 5th or 6th on my to buy list. So is there that big a difference between the two variations? Also is this the next big "discontinued" fragrance or will it be easy and relatively inexpensive to acquire in 6 months time?

Reports of the bottle having short longevity and high price is going to diminish this great fragrance once the vintage long lasting tin can versions become hard to come by. My advice is if you want this in your collection then now is the time to buy before they turn up on ebay for a princely sum!

Don't buy the La Collection version while the tin can versions are still around. You can still pick up 125ml bottles for a great price, whereas the new 80ml version is stupidly overpriced and of (arguably) lesser quality.

Even with the can... nice scent but longevity not quite up to my standards.

I have two unopened back ups of the tin can version. When it can be had so cheaply, might as well grab it while you can. The price alone of the glass bottle is enough to turn me away.

As for longevity, I get 10-12 hours with 3-4 sprays. Fantastic stuff for sure.

Get the earlier version if you can.

Cant speak to the new one, but the tin can is still easily available with online vendors at this time.

I started with a small decant which I assume was the newer version of RG. After reading the wisdom of BN I decided to opt for the tin can version. At first it seemed less potent, I wondered if it might even have gone bad. But I believe it was Jack who advised me to give it a chance and that was helpful. It has grown on me and now I do love it. Today at work I wore one spray on my chest and ten hours later can still detect it. It is more subtle than the newer version and really does have a clean sexy masculine vibe. The 'barbershop' description is even starting to make sense.
“When you step back from stressing the parts,
when the mind becomes still, the rose comes to you,
unfolds in you in all her glory.
    The perfume invades you completely.
The rose is you. You are one.”
