Vol d'Hirondelle by LM Parfums
I know this is old ground but I am personally sooooo out of the loop on fragrances issued during 2012 ( I think I smelled Lady GaGa something or other that somebody had at work), so........
If possible try to pick only one favorite. I know this is impossible for a lot of basenoters.
Try to pick something issued this past year only, 2012.
Please say why you think your pick is special in some way.
If you feel no fragrance you tried issued last year made the cut please say so.
I welcome your expertise.

Chypre Palatin-MDCI
I've just been on Trip Advisor. There was no information on a cut knee.
Luke Graves
Slumberhouse Norne. It's perhaps the best coniferous fragrance in existence. That makes my choice for 2012 an easy one.
There's an article I wrote together with other Basenotes writers. You can find here...

If I'd have to pick one (let's say two) they would be Songe D'Un Bois D'Etè and Mito.
Turtle Vetiver Front by LesNez for me. A tremendous reference quality Vetiver. Runner-up is Tzora by Anat Fritz.
Current Top Favorites:
1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
2) Giorgio for Men vintage/V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
4) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz) - tie
4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie
6) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio)
7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)
9) Javanese Patchouli (Zegna) - tie
9) Monsieur de Givenchy vintage (Givenchy) - tie
9) Coeur de Vetiver Sacré (L'Artisan) - tie
9) Polo vintage (Ralph Lauren) - tie
9) Patou pour Homme Privé (Jean Patou) - tie
9) Oud Shamash (The Different Company) - tie
A BN search for frags released in 2012 comes back with 1388; assuming a fair number did not make the list, I'll guess the number is closer to 1,600. I might have smelled all of 30 from that universe (Lubin, Decenniel, Imaginary Authors, Naomi Goodsir, Xerjoff Oud Stars, Slumberhouse to name clumps from houses sampled... I did not smell any O'Driu, and given the reviews I will perhaps have to remedy that).
Norne, Baque, Bois d'Acese, Zafar, Najaf, and Bull's Blood were standouts, but Decenniel (for Luckyscent) Bois Bourbon was my favorite and the only one I purchased so far. Its boozy dark rose hits my sweet spot and is unique to me.
Current Winter Favorites:
1. House of Matriarch - Blackbird
2. Brückner - Aoud 1
3. Creed - Royal Oud
4. Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 - Generation Man
5. Armani Privé - Oud Royal
6. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
7. Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 - Mortal Skin
8. Ormonde Jayne - Black Gold
9. Creed - Royal English Leather
10. by Kilian - Cruel Intentions
Ck one shock street - trust me (and much to my surprise) this stuff is great. Really warm and spicy.
Deeply MariaLux

Agarwood Heeley
Laurhum O'Driu'
Unfortunately i haven't tested the Les Deserts d'Orient Guerlain line yet but i suppose the fragrances are stunning.
Not much hesitation here- Grossmith Golden Chypre stood head and shoulders above everything else for me.

Chypre Palatin
Songe d'un Bois d'Ete
Oud (Maison Francis Kurkdjian)
There was a thread about this before but I'm too lazy to search. Anyway, I've only tried designer fragrances, and I honestly do not know most fragrances posted above.
From the ones I've tried, I like (in order):
- Spicebomb by Viktor & Rolf
- Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme by Chanel
- Vince Camuto for Men by Vince Camuto
- A*Men Pure Leather by Thierry Mugler
2809
Polo Double Black. Such a unique Mango opening and awesome longevity. One of the biggest "Go to"bottles of last year
Spicebomb
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful response. Such a nicely varied group of recommendations. I hope I can do you all the honor of trying as many as I can.
For what it's worth some of the recs reminded me that I'd tested more 2012 fragrances than I remembered. Apparently I actually wrote reviews on the Xerjoff Oud Stars, MFK Oud, Kilian Amber Oud and Turtle Vetiver Front all launched in 2012. Seems like ages ago.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Amyris Homme is my favourite from what I've tried so far. It is understated but is a very addictive comforting scent, buttery smooth iris and light woods with a hint of milk chocolate. Nothing ground-breaking but I find I reach for it quite often and I am glad to have it in my collection.
MDCI Chypre Palatin is also a very good release but not something I personally would wear often enough to warrant a purchase.
I've got a sample of Tzora on the way, and I'll have to get my hands on Trayee, it sounds amazing and I'm a big fan of Bertrand Duchaufour.
Eau Savage Perfume
Amouage Interlude
Creed Original Cologne. Surprises me too.
Hi, I'm William | My Swap Thread | My Sales Thread
Another echo for Songe, Mito & Seville.
I will add Encens Mythique & Myrrhe et Delires.
Opus VI & Interlude Man are also cool.
