Default Recommendations for a summer niche under $150?

I'm aiming to get a few fragrances when I go back home since I shall have access to a vast array of houses. I just got a decant of Virgin Island Water, but I feel I need another summer fragrance.

I was pretty excited by a review I saw of Bergamote 22, and a couple of BNers also recommended it to me. However, it seems that you either love it or you hate it. I'm probably going to try it next week, but incase I don't like it, I was thinking I should see what else I could get for the same price as a bottle of Bergamote 22 (50ml).

    All suggestions are welcome.

Fresh citrus tends to be a Creed specialty (a shortcoming in my book since they cannot seem to make anything else. As if it's never winter in France). I would try these in order:

Neroli Sauvage: very dignified citrus with good lasting power.
Silver Mountain Water: not citrus - This is tea and black currant but well suited for summer.
Bois de Cedrat: delicious lemon and woods.
Selection Verte: convincing citrus and mint, although a bit earthy.
Erolfa: nice beach scent but has less personality than a pair of socks.
Millesime Imperial: I own it, and it reminds me very much of Azzaro Chrome for some reason.

For $150 you'll probably have to order through FragranceX or Fragrancenet.

    Good luck!

My humble suggestion would be: testing most of the Acqua di Parma male and unisex fragrances might work and while they are situated in the mid-range priced to pricey category of niche, most of them are often available in regular retail (even excluding online, sales and discounts) under or around 150$.

If you like vetiver, there are several good niche vetivers. For example Lubin or Goutal (more rooty), Dior (fresher), Chanel Sycomore (woodier). Vetiver Extraordinaire is perhaps the freshest but it is above the price point.

I suggest Bois du Portugal or Royal Oud. And, while discontinued, Royal English Leather might help get through the winter if you find yourself missing Creed in your lineup during the winter months.

Honestly, I haven't really ventured into the vetivers as of yet. I quite liked Creeds Original Vetiver though. Most of those you mentioned are easy for me to get my nose on so I shall go and have a test of some of them.

Those Nicolai ones sound great in the notes. I'm sure someone was talking about a Nicolai boutique on the London perfumeries thread. I'll have to check that place out next week.

Jardin du Pote by Eau d'Italie.
Fresh basil, with some citrus and vetiver in the mix.
When you step back from stressing the parts,
when the mind becomes still, the rose comes to you,
unfolds in you in all her glory.
    The perfume invades you completely.
The rose is you. You are one.

I just discovered Guerlain's Eau de Guerlain and recommend it wholeheartedly. It is a truly exceptional citrus somewhat like Dior's Eau Sauvage but much brighter and less "dirty" (I love Eau Sauvage).

How about some rose instead, I find it summery, Portrait of Lady and Rose 31. Else, MI and GIT are classics. Chez bond has a similar feel as MI. Bigarade concentree and Honour only if you like bitter orange, which i don't.

Lorenzo Villoresi Uomo; 1.7 ml for around $80. Classical, herbal/citrus in the Meditteranean-Acqua-di-Parma vein, but more masculine.

It's a niche in the sense that it's significantly more expensive than designer fragrances most people will find at a common department store. Comparatively speaking, only a small portion of people buying fragrances will bother buying the more expensive bottles like Creeds, i.e. they're sold to a niche consumer base.

This is a great fragrance...may I also suggest MPG Racine? A very well put together refreshing vetiver. I forgot to mention it when I posted before

These technically aren't niche (why the requirement for "niche" anyway? seems limiting), but check out Comme des Garons Vettiveru, Chanel Sycomore, and Guerlain Vetiver for three very good vetiver choices.

I also really enjoy L'Artisan Timbuktu in warm weather (and any time, really), and I've heard that Lutens Ambre Sultan actually works well in the heat, due to its menthol-ish herb attack.
