Default A Year of Office Scents...

It's been a weird few months. I moved to Jamaica last year, had to come back to the States to close out two of my long-term contracts, one of them for almost 13 years, but recently found new work to replace it. The bad is that initially, for at least the next 4-6 months, they want me onsite (in the States) in a new office as the consultant. So yay, right? I'll be back in Jamaica soon enough.

Anyway, I've been shoved into a small-ish quiet room with 3 other folks that are, thank goodness, their hygiene is up to par. But that's all we share. We apparently do not share a love of fragrances. So to be a nice, new consultant, I've decided to not wear any colognes with nuclear projection or just are "difficult" to wear. Especially in cramped places.

    No Secretions Magnifique... oh well.

So far, I think I'm doing quite well:
    • 01/23/13 - Creed Original Cologne
    • 01/24/13 - Ralph Lauren Purple Label
    • 01/25/13 - Creed Windsor
    • 01/28/13 - English Laundry Arrogance
    • 01/29/13 - Caron Yuzu Man
    • 01/30/13 - Kenzo Air

None of the above project like a powerhouse and suffocate the other workers. But what else would you guys call a decent office scent? I ain't giving up my hobby. But I don't want to intrude either.

And even though I try to keep my wardrobe up to date, I've not added nor subtracted some of the scents I got rid of during my first move.

    Thanks in advance.

I wear TdH quite often to work and never feel like I'm over projecting. Some may say differently. I also have been testing and wearing Aventus to work and it seems appropriate.

Any of the Atelier Cologne fragrances. They last a long time, but sit very close to the skin.

    Chez Bond
    Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
    Creed Neroli Sauvage
    Spice & Wood
    Terre d'Hermes

I woud also bring along Aventus - just light sprays under a shirt... But thats just me - I would never be without that or Spice & Wood.

During the interview, I wore one spray of Aventus to the chest, applied 3 hours in advance after a fresh shower. Interviewed, got taken on the tour, came back to the interview room, which was approximately the same size as the current room, and still smelled it. Got a compliment from one the guys I now work alongside actually.

I tend to never overspray - notorious for maximum of 2 sprays, hardly never near the wrists or forearms since I'm a closet germaphobe and tend to wash my hands many times during the day.

But thanks guys for the tips. It's truly appreciated.

Acqua di Parma Colonia and New West, Bulgari Man are all pretty benign. It may be a little more challenging if S Carolina warms up while you're there. The fact that you are even concerned about this suggests you are unlikely to overdo things even if you were to wear Cuba.

Some that are impossible to over apply:

    Gucci Pour Homme II
    Dior Bois d'Argent

But, of course, you can pretty much wear anything if you only do one or two sprays. Four sprays is risky!

Further votes in favor of GPHII, Rive Gauche and TDH- among the many great suggestions so far, these could blend in particularly well in an office environment, however without having to renounce individuality.

By the way, congrats on your professional achievements.

All are great selections for the office.

Le Labo Rose 31, Creed OV, and the aforementioned Bvlgari Man. Two sprays of any of these would be modest, almost imperceptible.

I feel two sprays of most anything can be good for the office. Good luck at your new office!

So far, so good. Single sprays for heavier scents, no complaints and I'm not filling the room.

    • 01/31/13 - Creed Aventus
    • 02/01/13 - Creed Spice and Wood
    • 02/04/13 - Tom Ford for Men
    • 02/05/13 - Le Labo Gaiac 10
    • 02/06/13 - Creed Scent of Oger
    • 02/07/13 - Bond No. 9 Brooklyn
    • 02/08/13 - Marc Jacobs for Men
    • 02/09/13 - Bond No. 9 Riverside Drive
    • 02/11/13 - Bond No. 9 Wall Street
    • 02/12/13 - Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
    • 02/13/13 - MPG Garrigue
    • 02/14/13 - Creed Royal Oud
    • 02/15/13 - Creed Santal Imperial
    • 02/18/13 - Acqua di Gio Essenza
    • 02/19/13 - Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule

Oddest thing though - Santal Imperial has been the one that actually projected and got a couple of compliments.

I think you're doing splendidly. Wear what you please, with discretion and consideration. I think the key to your success is the variety of fragrances you are taking to work with you. In my experience, it's the person who wears the same annoyingly loud "signature scent" day after day who gets called into HR for reprimand.

and similar, of course they are suitable for whole of the office. No body else has to apply anything else. lol

Comme des GarÁons Vettiveru for a refreshing and honest vetiver EDC, with a great bang-for-the-buck factor and huge splash bottle! It smells great and natural, doesn't get too boring and it is just great fun, being able to pour away and splash it on, since it is so cheap

I must have really missed the bus with Gucci PH II. And I totally miss my bottle of Vettiveru. I might have to buy that again.

Chanel Pour Monsieur (not the Concentree version) is perfect for low-key office wear. Monsieur de Givenchy - another always-right choice.

Creed' Santal Imperial is my office scent par excellence, Gucci Pour Homme II will nigh never offend. In summer Vreed MI behaves similarly, as will Blenheim Bouquet on me.

    I agree with this.

Some are better than others, of course.

    Ones I like:
    Cartier Roadster
    Dior Homme
    Midnight in Paris EDT
    Bond Bleecker Street
    Cartier Eau de Cartier Concentree

I nuke em with 6+ sprays and tell em THEY smell if they make even the slightest negative comment.
The majority comes into my office and tell me it smells nice though.
A lot of times telling me it does smell bad in many of the other offices.

I wish the 80's were back though when it comes to frags.
