    Smile Monsieur Carven.. Uh oh!

After falling for Carven Homme, I learned of Monsiuer Carven here on the boards.
I received a 5ml mini today (purchased on ebay after losing 2 auctions for 60ml bottles). I have had it on for maybe ten minutes only to find that it really is that good! Sadly, bottles go off for anywhere from $50 to $250 and you never know what you may get on ebay, or anywhere given that it is old stock.

First- Thank you Basenotes for directing me to it!

Second, what are your thoughts on Monsieur Carven(I know that this has been done before)?

Third - Since it only seems to be sold as a splash, has anyone used it through an atomizer?

Fourth - Wow, that's good stuff!

I have the EdT & AS both. They are classics, but few if any today appreciate them.

    Very nice.
Sorry for the multiple threads. Strange how that happens.

I love Monsieur Carven, which I believe flies under the radar during many discussions of older fragrances. It is rich, complex, and well blended, a rather neglected gem.

I own four bottles of it, two 90 ml bottles and two 120 ml bottles, all in spray.

I can't believe that it took me so long to find these (also Carven Homme).
I've only seen the splash bottle available for sale, so I was not aware that it is available in spray. I suppose that I will have to treasure my 5ml until I can find a spray bottle at a reasonable price. It is such a well done dirty fragrance. I wish that there were more like this available today.

How do you find that the after shave differs? Somehow, i imagine the civet toned down and perhaps the jasmin/spices amped up a touch?

Well, for starters the AS is green!!

Other than that it is the usual in that it is a bit weaker than than the EdT. This is IMO a very formal, if not elegant, fragrance of times gone by. You just don't find fragrances such as this today with all the regs. It makes one think of something an elderly European royal would wear. Pure, yet subtle, class.

I have been wearing Monsieur Carven for years, at the end of the 70's and the begining of the 80's.Wonderful scent , very unique sadly discontinued many years ago. There is right now on french Ebay a seller who has 10 bottles of Monsieur Carven 50ml splash EdT for sale at 38 euros per bottle but I am very reluctant to purchase as I don't trust splash bottles on Ebay ...
I currently own also Carven Homme but there is no comparison : Monsieur Carven is , by far, a better fragrance !

Curious about this one. What about the leather accord? Smoky birch tar, or animalic castoreum?

My scent of the day. I was lucky to acquire a couple spray bottles recently by a friendly Basenotes member after trying a sample of it and being highly impressed. I am really surprised this does not get more attention despite its discontinued status.

Got the splash 60ml version, used to fill it into a little atomizer. Better projection while spraying it. I absolutely love it, one of my treasures. A mixture between Portos and Ho Hang
