    Default Looking for help finding/creating a whiskey note

    I was just wondering if anyone here could point me in the direction of a good whiskey note, or, if possible, advice on creating a whiskey note?

    It's too bad I couldn't extract the fragrance from an actual whiskey!

    Perhaps you could use whiskey itself? You could remove most of the water if you redistilled it. Running 40% volume whiskey through a pot still with a thumper will take the concentration up to about 90% volume.

    Where might one find whiskey lactone? A quick Google search yielded very little in terms of where to purchase it.

    As for using actual whiskey and redistilling it, I hadn't though of that. I have a still I built for making moonshine so that would definitely work. If I was able to boil off the water, then surely the alcohol would boil off too. If I boil them both off, what would be left I wonder?

    Boiling them off wouldn't work well, unless you were recapturing what was being boiled off. What kind of still do you have?

    I apologize. I misspoke when I said "boil off." What I meant by "boiling off" was that I could it off for recollection as it travels through my condenser. As for my still, its a small set-up using a modified pressure cooker, copper tubing, and a copper coil that I submerge in an ice-bath. It's pretty basic.

    I asked myself the same question a couple of years ago, and simply tried to use Whiskey straight from the bottle.
    It turned out to work quite well; a few of my WhiskeyClub mates love it.
