Default Suggestions for a sweet woody base note?

Im looking for suggestions for a sweet woody base note in essential oil?

If I could have my way I would like to use Amber but I cant seem to find any suppliers locally that have it. If anybody knows of an Australian supplier with this essential oil that would be great as well!

Regardless, im still looking a sweet woody base note they could go along with Amber or a replacement..

    Thanks guys

    Hi Crusher,

If it must be essential oil, i would look for combinations of Labdanum, Cedar (Atlas!) and Sandalwood, and pump up the sweetness with Benzoin or Vanilla.

However, i get better results using aroma chemicals too in the composition.
I recommend sweet woody base aroma chemicals like Givco's Black Agar, Benzoin Essence (from Perfumersapprentice.com), Oud (Aloeswood) Blend (Firmenich) and probably even Bois Ambrene Forte. Towards the sandalwood, you could use Ebanol.

    Hope this helps, happy perfuming!

    Jeroen.

Btw, excellent site you've got. I love the formulas on your page. I'm not familiar with many synthetics yet, but I hope to change that within the next year or so. It's nice to know that there's a good resource out there with tried and tested formulas to experiment with!

    (btw, love your artwork too!)

Labdanum + benzoin + vanilla = the classic amber note in perfume. You'll have fun with that for sure! Atlas cedar tend to be rather weak in a blend, you may want to be generous or use Virginia cedar (sharper, dryer though). Use vanilla sparingly, or you'll end up with a gourmand or find it fighting with the cedar.

Essential Oils: I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Balsams?
Fir Balsam, Copaiba Balsam, and the dreaded outlawed Peru Balsam.
What about Amyris? Even Cedar Atlas isn't too far...
What about Pemou? Ambrette Seed? Opoponax?

As for Chems, Cedrol for certain, cedraclaire, Sandalwood Givco with it's built in Ionones, and most any of the other Sandal chems/blends.
