    Default Overrated...

We all have opinions on what we consider overrated, and over used.

What do you think is overrated, or used and abused?

It seems I can't step into anybody without them wearing CK 1, Acqua di Geo...

Guilty by Gucci is another new popular one... But at least it's new... Hmm.

    Axe doesn't count xP

All good fragrances, but overrated on these boards.

I think most of the newcomers to this board will think a lot of the fragrances are overrated once they sample them. Some of the reviewers are very passionate about this hobby and describe the fragrances very creatively. Sometimes that sets up the average person for disappointment though. A scent that might blow the sophisticated fragrance fan's mind, might be described as, "Hey, that smells pretty good", from the average Joe.

I disagree. It really created its own brand of masculine, and really is an absolutely fantastic fragrance.

However, I came into this thread thinking Silver Mountain Water. I don't get what people see in that fragrance at all. How boring.

Perhaps I shall eat my words someday, as I've only tried it once, but I think Equipage may be overly revered. True, it is discreet and quite pleasant, but that would not suffice for me to put it at the summit of any lists. It smells similar to Pivet's Reve d'Or to me - an inexpensive fragrance much used in Cairene barbershops.

Habit Rouge strikes me as rather zany, in its weird curdled creaminess, to receive so much love. But I've only smelled the EdT a few times, so I only partly understand it.

I absolutely adore it and even I'm surprised it's so revered. It's certainly quite rude in the opening!

Agree with all of the above, 1 Million is embarrassing now, at least where I live. For Christmas every male I know received a bottle of this, it's a joke.

But re: Cool Water, is that over-rated? Most people I know regard it as average/cheap.

Many times I am seduced by the exquisite prose of fragrance reviewers and I am really psyched when I get a bottle. Then I wait for comments from my wife and coworkers. When they don't say anything I ask them whtat they think and they say, "it's a little sweet", or "it's alright". Then I know the magic was in the words and not in the scent.

The only genuine positive comments I've received recently were for Green Irish Tweed and Timbuktu.

I think ALL fragrances are overrated to some extent. It's perfume at the end of the day! With that being said:

Dior Homme Intense (I own it and I like it, but it's not all that and a bag of chips)
Bond No.9 (With the exception of New Haarlem)

Most Serge Lutens fragrances. To me they all seem incredibly similar. Jeux de Peau is disgusting. Marc Jacobs Bang is absolutely horrible and Bang Bang is overrated and boring. I don't understand why people worship Creed... I'm yet to smell something I like from that brand. To me, Bond No. 9 produces the most wearable scents out of all of the brands listed on the overrated page. Everything by Comme des Garcons is so boring......

CREED has been put on the list for a reason. An other one could be LUTENS. All products in this line share the same "vibe" so much (ISO E SUPER?), I can't stand a single one of those anymore. The "tremendous creativity" I see not.

Comme des Garcons are one of the most exciting and innovative fragrance brands of all time. And if the best word you can use to describe Bond no.9's line as is: wearable... I think you've got your "boring"s mixed up!

Shall we extend our opinions to feminine fragrances now? I'm not trying to be rude, just wondering if the original idea of the post was to be only within the category of masculines.

Hey, it's my opinion. Your opinion isn't fact, neither is mine. Can't we be civil? My 'boring"s' (with a quotation mark to indicate an apostrophe which shouldn't be there in the first place) are not mixed up. Comme des Garcons is innovative but to me their fragrances are boring. I don't sense anything of interest when I smell them. Sorry. As for describing Bond as wearable, I was complimenting it, trying to say that their perfume is wearable in the sense that they aren't incredibly popular among non-perfume hobbyists, are interesting (to me) and you can wear them without many people thinking "OH, that scent is SO overrated, everyone wears it!", but I must say I didn't make myself clear enough.

    Oh, I know they are

I just wanted to check with the OP that it's OK for us to start discussing fragrances marketed at women (as we were not previously) as I'm new to the forums and usually with forums if you start going off topic other posters lose respect for you. Angel certainly is overrated.

Ah I love contradictions, can't we be civil followed by immature grammar correction, sorry I thought using quotation marks to quote your word boring followed by an apostrophe to show to plural followed by an 's' would be a bit over the top for a casual talk forum. Grow up mate.
And as for the fragrances, fair do's, I wasn't criticizing your opinion, It's just the complete opposite word I could have heard to describe the house.

It's a risk I'm willing to take to slag off Tommy Girl. I don't think anybody will mind. Indeed it's probably more off topic to discuss this.

No worries. I tend to forget which perfumes are for women and which are for men once they've been in my cupboard.
