Default Do you have a spreadsheet/Database detailing your collection?

I have to say, I am a geek when it comes to this. I have an excel spreadsheet with all of my Frags/Houses/Ratings/frequency of wearing and various other stuff. Anybody else do this? Would be interesting to see how others record their collections.

Yes, I do this. For samples (I have almost a thousand of them!)

Hi Dailey. I have handwrtitten notes in notebooks. Not of wears but of impressions, scores, wishes, wants, to try's/buys etc, sometimes brief, sometimes stuff that might to go on to become a review. I want to get them tidied up and onto an elctronic format but what I really want is a nice Alphabeticised Journal and I can't find what I am looking forward. Any ideas?

I don't do this as my time is limited but it would be a great idea to have a list for insurance purposes.

Can't really help with the Journal, but I'm sure there is something that will suit what you want. Could be quite a job transfering all that info though

Not yet, but I do have some experience with issuing spreadsheets/even database-like overview documents for professional uses, why not try it for recreational/hobby-related uses too?

A simple spreadsheet with perfume name, brief comment, grade (good/bad etc), and whether I own it, to buy, or don't buy.

    Yes.

I've recently given up on using the Basenotes wardrobe, as I am unable to breakdown and organise my wardrobe the way I would like. Furthermore, waiting for something to be added to the directory can often be a pain.

My spreadsheet is pretty simple, featuring basic information, preferred photos of the fragrances owned, quantity in possession, and an annual log of what was acquired and sold off. Gradings and number of wearings are a no-no, as I find that a waste of time (if a fragrance falls out of favour, I'll instinctively know). Commercial fragrances are kept on one tab, and absolutes, essential oils, etc. are kept on another.

Using a spreadsheet gives me more freedom.

I generally use the wardrobe function to monitor but the way its been failing lately, i think I'll need to compile a database for myself..

When I created my spreadsheet, I cut and paste the main data from my wardrobe on here.

I have not done this yet, but I've thought about doing it. I've done it before with other hobbies and ended up spending so much time initially entering all the information into the database that I think I really upset my wife. I'm already walking on thin ice with my fragrance addiction, so I haven't decided to go there with the database yet!!!

My electronic record consists of a simple inventory list, and then a journal where I log what I'm wearing, when and my impressions and rating of it on that day. I stay away from any costings list. ha ha.

I, too, tend to be geeky in that way. But also quite busy and usually a little overwhelmed. So I created a very nicely organized Excel spreadsheet to track my sampling and purchases....and have totally failed to keep up with it in any kind of consistent way.

Yes. I've been growing one for maybe 5 years. It's currently 16MB.

    I've got tabs for:
Inventory / Samples & Decants / Oud Oil / Wish List / My Own Mixes / Ideas / Cigars
    Tea / Scotch / Soy Candles / Supplies / Glossary / Abbreviations / Conversions

In Inventory, I populate the following colums for each bottle:
    HouseName / CologneName / YearMade / MyRating / SourceStore / Class / TopNotes/Mid/BaseNotes / TotalCost / Size / CostPerOz / 10WordReview / BNScore / Concentration / LayeringIdeas

I have an index card somewhere in my drawer of what i have (what to keep, what to sell), what to try and what to buy. that's it though - no spreadsheet or anything.

I've never resorted to a spreadsheet but I keep all my frags and ingredients in alphabetical order and keep records on index cards. Anyone care to point me in the direction of an easy one for a numpty to use?

I have been using the "notes" app on my ipad to track my samples. It's very elementary though. I like the in-depth spreadsheets that some of you use though. Somebody go create an app for us non-creative types.

Here is my spreadsheet as it stands...

    Fragrances Spreadsheet on DropBox

Please feel free to use it as a basis for your own, laugh at it, tickle it or otherwise abuse it

In addition, any comments, tips or suggestions on how to improve it would be gratefully received (although this is a .xls export of the master .numbers file so some some things don't render exactly the same).

Finally any comments on my wardrobe are equally welcome (and yes, I'm well aware I have no Creed - yet!)

    Enjoy folks!

Just using the Fragrantica wardrobe thingy and only for the scents I dislike, though I usually remember what I've tried before/own, etc.

I did, but it just seemed to weigh me down and got tiresome to update.

Now I just gaze at my collection...no real need for a spreadsheet.

(Oh, also I used to put the price I paid in there...but that just got depressing)

I do this for my collection, samples and decants. It started as an index to keep track of my samples (each has a number) and it grew from there. It now includes name; house; index number (for samples); fragrance family, group, and sub-group (Michael Edwards); perfumer; rating from The Guide and brief description from The Guide (Turin & Sanchez); my rating; ratings from various perfume blogs; note breakdown; bottle designer; year launched; years major reformulations occurred; and batch number. That's all I can remember off the top of my head. I get really stoked about stuff like this; also, the spreadsheet format is great for sorting and grouping data!
