Default YSL Pour Homme Haute Concentration - bottles identification

    Hello,

I bought these two bottles of YSL Pour Homme Haute Concentration, but they are nothing alike.

Does anyone know which one is the oldest?

Because I don't have the original packaging, the information is more difficult.

It was the first time I saw this black and silver bottle.

Does anyone have more information about this?

    Thanks in advance.

The clear glass bottle has been the HC i have known since its launch. The black one with its fragrance and notes descriptions looks like a tester of sorts, or for particular markets.

Have the black one. I only know that it's old as I have had it a long time.

Bumping an old thread here I know, but I'm hoping the vintage geniuses will know the answer now...

The black bottle in the picture above does seem to be older. There are splash bottles of them which seem to be quite common, but there are spray bottles as well; just that they are ultra-hard to come by. Can anyone clarify which came first? I think I am quite confident that the clear bottle is the most modern...

I own the clear glass which is imo way stronger but less ''dirty'' than the original Pour homme edt version (non-HC!) which I did not like that much (smelled some weird vegetal dirtyness).
Maybe the black one (if indeed older) has still some of that dirtyness, but I don't know as I never smelled the black bottle. The clear glass is very citric in the opening with a woody-green-mossy drydown which makes it one of the best (citrus) woody aromatic scents. Wonderful stuff that lasts all day!
Anyone owns both clear and black glass bottle for comparison?
My Top '10' : (In no particular order)

    - Dolce & Gabbana: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Guerlain: Vetiver
    - Armani: Acqua di Gio Profumo
    - Davidoff: Leather Blend Edp
    - Ferrari: Essence Oud Edp
    - Chanel: Platinum Egoiste
    - YSL: Kouros (Fraîcheur)
    - Mancera: Cedrat Boise
    - MPG: Santal Noble
    - Knize Ten

That's also the one I own but I have a miniature of the black-glass one as well (7ml size). It smells mossier and creamier in a way and yet the herbs smell more pronounced. I get this too with the clear glass version but only if I spray more.

In terms of the original Pour Homme (i.e. not the Haute Concentration), I always thought the base was just vetiver and brushed it off because of that. I have read though in multiple places that this one may have had musks and maybe even animalic notes in the past, hence why it may appear 'dirty' to some. Nonetheless, I like that one too and have owned several bottles of it, just don't like it as much as the HC.

I always thought the oversize "YSL" logo is usually an indication of the older version.

I have the clear one with the black top and i also have a YSL Pour Homme in splash with a screwable red cap and very large YSL on the front,

Yes black bottle with large logo is the first original version. The clear bottle with the red top EDT used to also have the big logo on it. Both EDT and HC versions later came in clear bottle with the red or black top and simply stating Pour Homme.

Thanks for that, Renaissance_Man. I suppose I should hunt down a black bottle if at all possible.
Any idea if splash and spray bottles were made at the same time or if one came before the other?

Yes, this is correct ! Bottles with the large logo YSL are from the initial formulation. Reformulated one is like day and night compared to vintage (both regular and high concentration).

I personally haven't seen the splash bottles. Mine is a spray, but I would imagine they probably appeared at the same time.

There seems to be one splash on ebay right now. (it says non spray, so I assume it may be splash). Seller is in Portugal. I myself am always always leery of vintage citrus oriented splash bottles, unless there is a guarantee it has not been opened. Splash can get nasty faster if not stored properly. Sometimes people will open it from the bottom and leave the top with the YSL sticker intact and say it's unopened and sealed.

Of course, the black bottle with silver top - older, it is somewhere end of the 80s (maximum the very beginning of the 90s).
