Default Splash vs. Spray - Your preference?

Now that I'm sniffing my way across the perfumed landscape, I find myself very partial to splash bottles, because I can control how much I'm putting on. The Musc Ravageur fairies brought me a large bottle for the holidays, and the only problem is that I can't control the sprayer. I like that Serge Lutens and Santa Maria Novella gives you both options (splash bottle + optional sprayer). I wish more perfumers would give a choice.

Do you have an opinion? Doesn't matter? Waddya think?

I like splash too, but for most perfumes I end up using sprayers anyway, as I need a decent amount of frag on my skin. Only few perfumes (or parfum concentrations) are strong enough that dabbing is the way to go for me.

No clear preference, though I don't follow strict rules on this matter, there are times when a sprayer seems more appropriate, while other times splashing on, either in scarce or generous quantities, is the right and more pleasant choice for me.

Sometimes, I am fascinated to find, to experiment the "just right" quantity to be dosed by means of dabbing.

I could definitely dab on the Ravageur instead of using the spray. Chergui is definitely a dabber. Am in love with Opus VI by Amouage, but a few molecules go a loooooong way. If I sprayed it on, I don't think I could leave the house.

It depends for me... Some of my very strong powerhouse fragrances like vintage Bijan for Men I prefer splash to "control the applied amount" a bit better. Mostly though I prefer to spray.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)

I'm just wondering how much less than a spritz would you want on your skin anyway? If I really want very little, I just spritz once although that never happens with me LOL. I like to wear larger quantities generally so this is almost never an issue for me. I spray a lot but in a misting fashion and really enjoy how it opens up the scent.

I only have ONE exception for dabbing and that is Norma Kamali Incense. I use a drop--no a streak--and only on my wrists/arms not on my neck. I have never experienced anything more potent. Nothing.

However "splash" really means splash for me. That is for summer scents of citrus or EDC style for refreshment. That's when I go through a 100 ml bottle in a matter of weeks. I literally pour them on.

Spray, by far. Try to avoid splash if possible.

I prefer the splash over a sprayer because I feel that the atomizer wastes a good amount of juice to surrounding atmosphere. The atomizer turns the liquid into a mist that depending on ambient air velocity, size of mist droplets, volume of mist, and distance of atomizer from my skin may only deliver a part of the intended spray to my skin.

I mostly prefer spraying as it's more convenient, but splashing is perfectly fine. There are some frags that I'd rather splash/dab, so I spray less volume closer to the skin to achieve that effect if it's in an atomizer.

You will get much better projection with a splash because you are using your fingers to apply it. And many things you touch will pick up the fragrance too. Which can lead to nose fatigue.

    So, I prefer atomizers.

Spray... Splash leads to the parfum all over ur hands, ends up wasting 5-8 percent of a bottle thru it's life.
Unless u use attars or perfume oils, spray's the way...

I guess it depends on where you use your splash bottles, as a drop or two of the scent always makes its way down the bottle.
If you use them in your bathroom, all is well.
If you use them in your bedroom, and put them down on top of your varnished/stained dressing table - well, it's no fun seeing marks in the shape of the base of the splash bottle all across the dressing table. Luckily I noticed such marks on top of a cheap bookshelf that I was keeping the splash bottle on, or I would have been ropeable.

Most of the time I like to spray but there are times when dabbing is simply superior of an experience.

    Like with oud oil.

Spray - all day, every day.

Scent behaves differently when splashed, and I've yet to come across a scent a prefer splashed rather than sprayed.

Is it even possible to spray oud oil? That would be brutal!

I tried it. Didn't enjoy it.

It didn't diffuse the same if when dabbed.

I believe Spray you use less per "serving" as opposed to Splash.
But then again splash is a fraction of the cost.
    Both have advantages.

Spray everything except my Amouage Tribute Attar, that is daubed VERY lightly. I find that when I get a sample with a dauber, and daub it on, it smells different than spraying. I even have a bag of 2ml atomizers to dump the vials into when I get them because literally, they smell different. I really hated Aventus when I daubed a sample on, it smelled like an ashtray. Luckily I had a chance to try it in a tester, and sprayed it. I ended up loving it. It is like dumping 2mls of gasoline in the center of your garage floor and vs. putting that same amount in an atomizer and spritzing it around the garage...you will get a much stronger wider projecting smell by spritzing.

I see now that because I've been wearing heavier winter frags, I prefer to daub them on. I just got a bottle of Ambra Nera by Farmacia Ss. Annunziata, and the bottle came with an additional (and optional) sprayer. I very much like being given a choice, which I wasn't with Musc Ravageur (damn that sprayer). A little MR goes a loooooooooong way...

I prefer sprays 95% of the time, but if a cologne is super powerful, and wearing too much ruins the whole experience, then I have often wished for a splash bottle so I can lightly dab on.

For instance, I wore Bentley Intense yesterday and found that it projected too much for my liking from only one spray, and the projection from the incense lasted several hours. It got to the point of feeling uncomfortable, and if I feel uncomfortable, I'm not going to wear the cologne.

I like the cologne but a splash bottle is not an option, so.....

Except for lighter cologne-style fragrances - which are meant to be applied liberally - and of course extracts, when a few dabs are enough, atomisers are perfect and much better at giving the right dose.

I almost always decant into a sprayer. The one time I didn't use a sprayer for a bottle was for ' Acqua di Parma Profumo'. The bulb-type sprayer sprang a leak. Luckily I had it sitting out where I could see it when I first bought it. I looked at it and saw that it was leaking through the nozzle onto the counter top. I removed it immediately.
