Ok...So why do you think its fake?
Hi All. This is my first post on the forums; so, if I am in the wrong part of the forums, I kindly ask that you cut me some slack.
Unfortunately, my first post is relative to a (potentially) counterfit bottle of Thierry Mugler TASTE OF
I ordered this bottle directly from Amazon. That is, I didn't purchase it from one of the virtual gypsy fragrance tents which they host that sell 100% Authentic Products .
So, given it is Amazon who sold me the product directly, I didn't give too much thought into purchasing a bottle of Taste. Everything looked on the up and up untill I too the item out of the box.
The rubber seemed to have a sort of dust on it or somthing and small markings. I've never ordered or purchased a bottle of Mugler before, it came with a little purple envelope like thing inside from the company.
But here's where I got concerned...The "Unique Code" under the box is printed (11 characters: a set of 3, a space, then a set of 4, space, another set of 4) But when I went to put it in on the web it kept saying "Don't Mix 5's and S's, 6's w/ G's (etc., I'm sure you get the idea.
So, the string of numbers started and ended with 6's. I mean, I guess they could be G's, but come on, these look like 6's. So I changed both of them to G's and the code worked. WTF?
I can supply pics just not right now as it is late. I am not concerned in the slightest as Amazon is awesome about returns with anything including being dissatisfied with the item; I am, however, a bit dissapointed as I wanted the fragrance.
Also, I forgot to mention there is a six digit code in the rubber on the bottom of the bottle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Ok...So why do you think its fake?
Canadians: I would like to trade for a decant of The 3rd Man by Caron. PM me.
Of course it's possible but not likely. Mine came directly from Mugler USA and although it was sealed, it had dust and markings like you mentioned and it was perfectly fine.
Test the juice rt now - if u can get a strong smell abt 8-12 hrs or so from now, then its an original, no doubt to it. Fakes are prevalent, but they cant fight the longevity of this cologne...
The unique code u r talking abt will actually be on the inside packaging that covers the top of the cologne (basically the inside cardboard / whatever material packing). A picture will better explain, but its too late for me to do that...
Have you actually tested the fragrance on yourself? Or is this all based on a code (which did work in the end)?
Unless the juice seems off, I doubt people would be faking Taste of Fragrance. Like hednic, I too have ordered my TOF from muglerstoreusa.com and it also had some dust on the bottle. I think that's normal.
Regarding the input of the code in your Circle account, they sometimes have issues with that. I remember back a year ago when I tried to input my code, the liquid in the virtual bottle wouldn't increase. It's pretty kludgy.
If you really are concerned, you should give them a call or email them and let them know of the issue. They should pretty much tell you right there if your code is legit or not.
Doesn't seem like its a fake. If it smells fine, then you probably shouldn't worry.
That's the risk you take when purchasing from Ebay and Amazon. You have some good sellers and you have some bad. I've ordered may frags from these guys. Always make sure they have a return policy before ordering (that is if the item is fake).
I still don't get why he thinks it's fake?
My very real TOF had the dust too (probably a preservative for the rubber). Seriously, quit your paranoia - TOF is far too much of a slow seller and specialist choice to be worth going to the effort of faking so well - right down to the authentic bottle dust!
This is strangest reason yet to suspect a fragrance is fake.
Dusty rubber. Dont mix 5's G's 6's. Working code??!!!!
Come on man!!!
Want to trade - Chanel Platinum Egoiste for Dior Eau Sauvage...
nobody buys this stuff. it's a great fragrance that nobody wants so i doubt it's fake. i have 4 bottles i bought when it first came out and thought i would make a killer by reselling them on ebay. i paid 60 bucks for each bottle and have my bottle listed for 60 bucks about 7 times and nobody wants it. i doubt that it's a fake. testit as said previously. the scent lasts on all skin types at least 6-8 hours.
I will say this ... I have no hesitation this is the real deal.
It smells fantastic. Smells just like the one I tested at The Bay when it was on the market. The Mugler code was enclosed, but I ignore those anyways because they are virtually useless for us up here.
I agree as stated above, I can't see anyone going through the trouble to fake this

Hey everyone. This is only my second post to the site. My first was regarding a bottle of (Mugler) "Taste of Fragrance" which I purchased on Amazon (From AMAZON THEMSELVES, NOT A 3RD PARTY VEDOR opperatinng through them).I got lots of awesome feedback regarding that and don't think I got the chance to say THANKS to EVERYONE! . If I failed to respond it's b/c I am at school or work so often and hardly ever get the luxury to go online for stuff besides school and/or work. But again, many Thanks.
I order from places like fragrance.net or fragrance X (et al.) about 70 % of the time, and the other 30% from MSRP RETAILER'S like Sephora or Macy's
So, anyway, on to the point.
I'd never smelled any of the Givenchy colognes (EDT spray's), or probably never smelled any that really sent me until stumbling upon Givenchy "Play" Intense the other day and really liking it. I went online to Fragrancenet and ordered a bottle (3.3 EDT) and was excited when I saw it had arrived yesterday; that is until opening the retail box . After removing the cellophane, I opened the box and was surprised to see that on the inside, under (retail) box lid (flap), the paper looked as if it were torn. Now, when I say torn, I dont mean that the box was ripped in the traditional sense, but rather that on the reverse side (the inside) of the(retail box) flap, the paper was all ragged. The best way to describe what I mean is hard to put into words, other than to say that imagine taking a piece of scotch tape snd pressing it down REALLY FIRMLY against the costruction paper, and then peeled it off fast; you'd be left with that torn laye. The weirdest part is that it looks like someone cut the inside of the box (just the flaps though-- the inner black card board-ish thing that keeps the box from caving is fine), The dame goes for the bottom flap. But even more odd is that there is that there is a piece on the sride
I have pics, but was hoping somone vould show me how to get them on here.
Just wanted to get some feedback from the community.
Upload your images to a hosting site like Photobucket and then use their image link in your post.
It could have happened when it was packed in the box at the plant or manufacturing center prior to it being sent out for sale, and perhaps quality control hadn't caught it. Just a guess.
I can't be the only one this has happened to (and it doesn't happen most of the time)
Hello all. I have found myself in a bit of a conundrum . I purchased a bottle of Givenchy Play Intense from a reputable (discount) online retailer, the top one, the most popular and reputable (you can guess pretty easily). Allow me to preface this post by saying that I would prefer NOT to mention their name b/c I don't want them to look like a shady operation in any way; AND I would not hesitate to place an order with them in the future; that said...on to this precarious issue:
So, I make the initial order and it arrives in a timely manner, as expected. I peel off the cellophane (their was a tear but it was otherwise still sealed all around.
So I lift the flap to open the box and notice that the inner side of the flap, which is supposed to be BLACK, is white and looks and looks like someone took a razor or box cutter and then applied a piece of tape, then peeled it off, giving the inner layer that rough, yet fuzzy paper feel. I inspect the bottle, and the serial of outer bottom of the box (the one punched into the bottom) matches the bottle serial and it smells like the real deal but maybe just slightly off (too close to be a fake IMHO b/c of the scent and esp. b/c that bottle seems like it would be VERY COMPLICATED to remake...BUT WHO KNOWS; I know there's no way I am the only person this has happened to.
So I call, and they are kind about the issue, send me a return label. As well the customer service woman I spoke to said she would send out a new one but that she would open and inspect.
I follow up the next week and I get the same sales lady, and she says oh I looked at this one end every looks perfect. So I eagerly await arrival open the flap, SAME FREAKIN THING. So, I'm thinking, really? you're not serious.
So I am bringing this issue to the community who probably have ordered from frgrancenet (oops, oh well whatever anyone reading probably already guessed what site it was from anyhow) and have included pics. I mentioned this issue in an earlier post but I think it was in the wrong section but I have attached pics for reference.

Did you read the answers to your previous thread on the same topic yet?
If the scent is fine, I see no problem. If it's the packaging of this company's stock of the item you want that you're not happy with, then return it for good, get a refund and look for it at another place.

Yeah, I think thats gonna be what I end up doing, Thank you.
ALSO ANOTHER THING, THE BOX OF A BOTTLE BOUGHT FROM MACY'S IS ALL BLACK NO RIPS ON INNER FLAP(S) AND OR BOX. I probably sound like I am being fussy but come on, they boast same as department stores but cheaper. Whatever, I know it's not frag'net's fault I just want to see / hear of someone who had the same issue. Funny enough, the same thing happened with a bottle of Dior Homme from Beauty Encouner. I sent it back but I ordered A*Men shortly there after from them and it was perfect. I really avoid paying retail, lol. I dunno, it just seems like a big grab bag of stuff ranging from high quality to sub-par (in one way or another). At least they (most of the big discount fragrance retailers) are accommodating about the returns and exchanges. I'm pretty sure it's real (like 98%) but I might still return and go to a different vendor.
Rally just wanna hear of SOMEONE whose had this experience.

Agree with hednic, but sharing photos may be the best way to put your mind at rest?
If you go to 'reply' to thread, the bit for uploading pics is the third icon from the left on the mini toolbar.
You can then upload from your desktop (on a mac, anyway).
Having said that, you do seem to be having a run of bad luck with your boxes, from your other posts & started threads - there are three now so please stick to this one in order to save confusion.

You've posted three threads on this topic now - maybe try to stick to one?
So.. you think you have a fake cause the bottom of the bottle is dusty.. ?
My Ultimate Top 5:
24 Platinum (2012)
